Any Former Telecom Linesman from the 1970s Out There?

    Hello All,

I am restoring a 1970s D-Line ex-Telecom four wheel drive International "Linesman's" van. My late father used to have these vans as a work vehicle as a PMG - Telecom - Telstra Linesman. If you can remember how the vans were set up inside for such things as two-way radios, it would be great to get in contact with you?

    Kind regards
    Lionel

    Hello W & KO,

Thanks for the reply. I pretty sure that I did find one of those Facebook sites. I posted a request there but did not get any replies. I am not sure which one it was now.. I will have a gander at it. Thanks again W & KO.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Try contacting the Telstra Museum in Brisbane. Dad was ex PMG and used to volunteer there. They may have photos etc. Dad was a Tech so not sure if he would be familiar with the linesman’s vehicles but I will ask when I next speak to him.

Spoke to Dad to today. He remembers the vehicles but can’t help you with any detail. But he says one of the blokes who volunteers at the Telstra museum in Brisbane used to run the PMG motor pool. The bloke is 85 and lives at Bribe so does not attend often. But Dad is going to see if he can help.

    Hello Trout,

Thank you for taking so much effort following my search for information about my van with your Dad. Also, could you thank your Dad for asking the bloke at the Telstra Museum. I greatly appreciate both of your assistance - thank you.

    Kind regards
    Lionel

Also be interesting to know many Power Wagons the PMG had .

The one in the Photo is an Australian Assembled RHD 57-57 with a Kew251 engine.

Lionel, not wanting to appear callous, but a Linesman from that era.... might have enough difficulty in remembering his name, never mind his mobile 'office' layout

Perhaps you'd have more luck with a .... Medium.

Some would consider that comment offensive. While I have never worked for Telstra or its predecessors, I have little difficulty recalling details of my work environment from the 1970s or even the 1960s.

I can remember those powerwagons , I think some had an auger or similar mounted on the rear.

A lot ended up in the bush on stations , with water tanks on them, I actually drove one with no brakes , nothing to hit out there.
