What’s an arbiture
Not a political, religion or similar bashing chat pretty please. The hardworking mods need less work not more.
Some past and current trends had me chucking at a comment about a bank stating it is going to behaveBy Behaving it plans to avoid investing in items which have nasty side effects. (ANZ joined well over 100 other banks around the world in refusing to fund new coal projects, following on the heels of similar announcements by major banks in Japan.)
A comment "Federal ministers urge boycott of major bank proposing climate risk in lending decisions" seems wacky to me.
Several of Australia's biggest resources companies may quit the Queensland Resources Council, after its leadership refused to back down from an advertising campaign that urges voters to put the Greens Party last at the upcoming state election.
Ian Macfarlane has been chief executive of the Queensland Resources Council since 2016. Louie Douvis
South32 confirmed it had raised concerns with QRC management over the approach, while Origin Energy and BHP have suspended their memberships, with sources saying the lobby group had broken an unwritten rule that requires advocacy to focus on policy, rather than party lines.
I think our police do a great job, They need good management and oversight a bit proven by a certain lawyer who is not seeing a heap of gangland types let out of jail free or now worse, seeking compensation for being convicted of crimes they probably did.
I think our government usually does a good job yet the 30 million near a possible new Sydney airport gets muddier daily "NSW paid almost as much as commonwealth for land near Western Sydney airport Property records reveal the state bought a block for $2.35m per hectare, which compares with $2.43m for the Leppington triangle"
Our banks royal commission showed some really unethical and immoral management. Seeing a bank or company making appropriate risk assessments abused seems to leave a question who is allowed entitled to be an arbiture of our morals. ASIC seems to have fallen over relating to a few hundred thousand in 'interesting' board allowances. Jumping up an down on the CEO of Aus Post over a few k of watches for a very well down job by a pollie or three who are not jumping up and down over much bigger issues makes me wonder about the Judge Jury and Executioner rights? Religions used to claim it here. Such is life perhaps or do we need a better standard of ethics in our choices for leaders?
Added references to several current issues. A past one or two dozen + seem to show having profit only and no morals is less than reasonable Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Leopold (Belgium) He was a seriously sick puppy
Personally I would applaud any business that take time to consider if an investment is going to burn a hole in the balance sheet. A few more with a middle longer term view of risks would be welcome.
What is good I feel, Is we can make money not being short term and blinkered if the rule makers don't break the good rules.

I see
Maybe banks should be more concerned about looking after their customers and shareholders financial interests.
Also, police forces in any true democracy shouldn’t be in the pocket of any political leader. So, no, they’re not doing a great job. In fact, they’re a bloody disgrace.

Company directors are required by law to act in the best interests of their shareholders. Coal mines are predicted to become stranded assets and bad investments as countries move away from coal. If a company director knew that, but financed an investment anyway which then became stranded, they could be liable to be found negligent.
This one is costing us taxpayers about 4 millions per month and perhaps 250 million to fix the stuff up plus.In this case the bigger company offloaded the dud asset to others who liquidated themselves to avoid paying to fix it up leaving the bill and mess for us. The real chuckle, if you can laugh, is Woodside is likely to make a lot of money from the cheap sale of the mess to the now dead buyers
They are very smart or we are very dumb? Both could be true.
Woodside directors acted in the best interest of shareholders dumping the dud assets and now making money to fix it up.
Update on the safety of the Northern Endeavour | Ministers for the Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources
Northern Endeavour Temporary Operations Program to ensure the continued safety and security of the Northern Endeavour floating production storage and offtake (FPSO) vessel following liquidation of the Northern Oil and Gas Australia (NOGA) group of companies.

I'm puzzled about that picture - the post is talking about a floating production and storage offshore facility. That picture is of a jackup exploration drilling unit, that is not floating and clearly has no storage facility, and is also clearly involved in drilling, not production. Is it simply the wrong picture? Or is the whole article equally careless with the facts?

Yes, that looks more like an FPSO. Whether it is the right one, I have no idea.
