My nightmare with the NDIS process.

My new OT put a request in for a folding table for my Wheel chair, ( similar to a baby's high chair) so I can eat in my chair and do paperwork.
the tray is cut from a piece of perspex and is attached to a bracket and swivel so it can be moved out of the way when not needed.

I received the invoice to approve the other day.

the price was $850 for the tray table.
$5 to carry out mods to my chair.
$100 for fitting, they have has to drives 10 mins to get here and screw 4 screws to fit. fair enough,
but why do have to charge a delivery fee of $150 for an item the technician is going to bring anyway when he comes here to do the work.
As a tax payer still, I think they charge because they can , it's the disability rip off.

I think the "S" stands for scam not scheme...

Yes the government wants to save the bill so to speak on ndis yet isn't looking at providers doing things like that!

It is providers who have seen a gravy train who have caused the problems with costs blowing out

hey Epic I had a puncture rang up supplier of chair about it.
they were coming out 3 days later on a Monday to fit the buddy button I had paid for when the chair was built, they had software issues re programming it on existing computer, hey said they would look at the puncture on that same day. I agreed.
But Monday came and I got a call saying they couldn't make it and were coming on Tuesday.
The chap came fitted the buddy button, jacked up the chair and removed the the flat wheel. He then told he has put my chair on blocks and is going a tyre shop as he didn't have a tyre bead breaker on him.

So he left with the wheel , it was getting late in the day and he didn't return.
The next day I rang the company and they said they had t send the tyre out and they would return the day after.
The day after and another disability supply company phoned me and they came to fit it that day.

Then i get emailed this bill.

Service Date: 30/6/21
Carried out repairs / service to clients wheelchair.

Now the way I see it, they were coming out anyway to fit the buddy button they were supposed to when my chair was ordered and manufactured. They were paid in full before delivery.
They were here to fit that button which they for what ever reason was their problem at the time and didn't. they had to come here to fullfill the contract. they charged $5 for something, then labour $110 and $31.31 for the tyre.

but the $120 call out fee

is this because the service van doesn't carry the right tools on board for jobs ad another company came out to fit the whee back on I have to pay for that also?
so basically it cost $250.50 for someone to change a tyre and I was 5 days off the road.

That is absolutely crazy and a prime example of providers doing the wrong thing and doing the wrong thing by participants in using up their budget!
There should be no charge on fitting the buddy button that they missed. That should definitely be on them. They also were aware of what the job also entailed with the flat tyre so should have already been carrying tools etc needed for that job. And to be without your 'legs' for 5 days is just not ok. Did your chair come with a spare tyre and jack? I hope you have questioned their charges. Ive heard some horror stories from participants, one was charged double for the one thing, and when the participant questioned. The company replied with "oh yeah normally we are not questioned" I also recieved a bill from my physio for a week I did not have physio, queried that but its been a couple of times ive had to question charges. As it ism, being self managed, I do not believe I should be paying that high ndis amount because thats their to the fees etc they have if a participant is plan managed. Not me, they do no extra steps.

It’s unfortunately not just with the scheme. A friend had a flat batter on his tractor. Dealer insisted that a tech visit and diagnose the problem. Wait a day for them to arrive and do diagnostic checks to decide it is a flat battery. So you will fit the battery now? No this visit is just to do diagnostic check you will need to call the dealer and arrange for someone to come out and fit the battery. 4 days and 2 call out charges to change a battery

JACK AND SPARE , Magic mobilty lost them as acccessory as an added cost.

update. got news yesterday the NDIS will fund the $5K odd difference for lift cost but not the OT stuff up. We will have to try and recover the extra $15K ( from the OT company that signed off on the order) to pay for revised building works like ripping up the new slab and new concrete and air freight from Canada. So depending on their response, they have been given 48 hrs, we may possibly have to go to an advocant
.
I so over this, just last night I blacked out and fell and was unconscious for nearly 3 minutes, same thing happened a couple of weeks ago as I cant get around the house safely, It is really scarey when it happens and the risk of serious injury is a worry. I need to be able to use my power chair inside.

I don't see why recovering the money should be your problem. The NDIS paid them out of your funding didn't they?
