CFA furious as campfires are left burning in Victoria on the weekend.

    • Victorian environment department officers found 87 unattended or abandoned campfires across the state last weekend
    • They say its a bad sign for so early in the fire season
    • The large number of fires coincided with all Victorians having freedom of movement following lockdown

Iím pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

NRE/ DSE/ DEWLP and now FFM or Forest Fire Management as they are called today, start their day here checking all campgrounds for this very thing. They log them with Firecomm (as they are called now as opposed to Vic Fire) and they generally come up on the emergency app. It happens regularly.

The Main reason why WA doesn't have as many bushfires as their Eastern States counterparts is because WA has a TOTAL fire ban over the warmer months of the year including camp fires.
There is a Simple solution to these numbsculls leaving unattended/abandoned campfires and that is to Ban them and having severe penalties for lighting them.
City folk in the bush over summer are a nightmare for the fireies.

    Not true!

Scroll down a page to : 2. Spatial distribution and frequency of thunderstorms and lightning inAustralia and notice that on the chart, areas of Qld, NSW and Vic have a maximum thunderstorm occurrence. Refer to the last couple of paragraphs above the chart.

    https://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/wcp/c..._Australia.pdf

Qld generally has a total fire ban during our fire season, which differs quite a bit to yours and in the last few years, the main causes of fires were dry lightning strikes, accidental ignition i.e. cockies/land owners using a welder, grinder etc and unfortunately, arson!

A couple were 'Controlled Burns' which got away.
