NASA and the defense research agency DARPA believe they can safely use nuclear energy to power human spaceflight to the red planet.

Hope it works. Rather sure It will myself. Very Glad its not my money investing in the research. Almost true as Australian Tech out of ANSTO is highly likely to be helping the Fuel supply via highly enriched uranium which Silex Laser technology is likley to be a part of. We are all invested in our cool ANSTO.

Rabitt poo to plastic recycling to clothes and jet fuel

Science fiction eat your heart out

NOT INVESTMENT ADVICE

The Science is really extraordinary

I bet you can see a hundred uses. One trivial one I noted was polypropylene which I used to use as big tow hawsers.

This crew can make it brewing rubbish into it "According to some reports, the current global demand for the material generates an annual market of about 45 million metric tons and it is estimated that the demand will rise to approximately 62 million metric tons by 2020"
The green beer brew Jet fuel is

Back to the future anyone Science fiction to reality?

Interestingly, my son's closest highschool friend works for ANSTO as a nuclear physicist. I have no idea what he does, he does not talk about his work! (Actually have not talked to him for years)

I had an offsider, up North years ago, who was a nuclear physicist. He couldn't find employment in his field, at the time.

I have to say that I was a little uncomfortable, at first, giving instructions to a bloke whose IQ was probably three times mine!

A nice bloke, too.

Adding to the Pre Human Beer like fermentation to Ethanol post above- Back to the Prehistoric future it is really you would understand why if you listened to the LanzaTech
at a hour or two in- It is BIG sorry
Brazil cars mostly run on Ethanol. They have a lot of spare sugar perhaps? Cheaper than oil for sure

Shell is changing Ethanol to Hydrogen in Brazil. Its fairly simple! Doing it at scale cheaply is possibly not.
Shell announces partnership to convert ethanol into hydrogen

By Shell Brazil | September 02, 2022 Link to yarn

Too much science is never enough- Jut like running for me PS for real trivia ethanol is two carbon atoms six hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom

Almost all current hydrogen is methane changed by steam reforming CH4 One Carbon Four Hydrogen. A quick flip and you get 50% more Hydrogen from Ethanol.

That is COOL Science in this black ducks view

Administering pure oxygen in a pressurized chamber could reverse ageing and illness, research finds.

How cool. I wonder if my diving cylinders can be repurposed ?

Blue Bottles- they can sail! All three animals in one!

Each bluebottle is 3 animals not one !

"Bluebottle or Pacific Man-of-War is not a single animal but a colony of four kinds of highly modified individuals (zooids). The zooids are dependent on one another for survival. The float (pneumatophore) is a single individual and supports the rest of the colony. The tentacles (dactylozooids) are polyps concerned with the detection and capture of food and convey their prey to the digestive polyps (gastrozooids). Reproduction is carried out by the gonozooids, another type of polyp.
The float is a bottle or pear-shaped sac that can exceed 15 cm. It is mainly blue, though its upper margin may show delicate shades of green or pink. It is a living, muscular bag that secretes its own gas, which is similar to air. The float has aerodynamic properties and it seems likely that sailing characteristics may be modified by muscular contraction of the crest. Physalia sails at a slight angle downwind and the course is determined by the curvature of the float and the underwater resistance of the rest of the colony. The float may project either to the left or to the right; the left-handed forms sail to the right of the wind and vice versa. Thus, if the sailing angle of one form leads to its stranding on the shore, the others sailing to the opposite side of the wind may escape

Its true- Scientific Proof Is A Myth

I loved this

"You've heard of our greatest scientific theories: the theory of evolution, the Big Bang theory, the theory of gravity. You've also heard of the concept of a proof, and the claims that certain pieces of evidence prove the validities of these theories. Fossils, genetic inheritance, and DNA prove the theory of evolution. The Hubble expansion of the Universe, the evolution of stars, galaxies, and heavy elements, and the existence of the cosmic microwave background prove the Big Bang theory. And falling objects, GPS clocks, planetary motion, and the deflection of starlight prove the theory of gravity.
Except that's a complete lie. While they provide very strong evidence for those theories, they aren't proof. In fact, when it comes to science, proving anything is an impossibility.
" Link Forbes

This was in a pod cast about conspiracy and woo theroy in another thread.

I had to chat with a person who claimed to have "irrefutable proof" about 'Australian Immunization Registry' They required proof from AIR but do not allow AIR to do it for them. I suspect there is strong evidence of an issue or two Not scientifically proven or dis-proven of course The irrefutable proof seems more than questionable and was not provided

Aviation Crashes and Injuries Statistics
Year Number of Crashes Minor Injuries
2000 2220 1256
2001 2063 612
2002 2020 706
2003 2085 772

By basing these figures on how Covid deaths are recorded, it would appear that Y2K was responsible for the larger number of aircraft crashes.

Birds and platics study Lord Howe Island

"A previously unknown disease in seabirds caused by the ingestion of plastic has been found on Lord Howe Island by scientists from the United Kingdom and Australia.
Named plasticosis, the newly classified disease is caused by plastic that repeatedly injures soft tissue and leads to the formation of extensive scar tissue in a bird's stomach.

"

"A global study commissioned by the World Wide Fund for Nature in 2019 found on average that humans consumed as much as five grams of plastic a week.Ms Charlton-Howard said microplastics had also been found in human breast milk and human placentas."

Spooky bit about some of this which clearly needs more science is micro plastics in my toothpaste

Adrift Lab classifies new disease caused by plastic ingestion by Lord Howe Island seabirds - ABC News
