model discrimination of the worst kind

A mate and myself were on our way to a spare of the moment mud run yesterday and decided to stop off at a well known training area to try out the articulation on his new standard suspension setup. (before getting it nice and muddy). We came across a Sydney based club during there training session so were about to do the right thing and leave when I was approached asking if I'd like to join as I was in a Disco but my mate wouldn't be able to due to his fetish for old eastern 4x4's. That was fine, expected, but what came next totally astounded me, this particular club would not except Fenders or Series Landies

    ??????????????????????????????????????

Why not, there still landies and as a disco driver and recently a series owner aswell, I got slightly confused. You don't have to be einstein to see a Fender or series could easily get to a lot of places a standard disco or rangie simply cannot. Why the descrimination? Is it fear of getting shown up by a cheaper model or just plain snobbery?

I apologise if I offend by this post, its not my intention, just want to know why accept some but not other Land Rover owners

P.S I didn't see any AULRO stickers on there vehicles. Also have I possibly stumbled on the reason why disco drivers don't wave or stop to give a series owner a clutch start when they are seen on the road.

I think you should post this in the MUDPIT so us Fender owners can get serious about our replys.

That would probably be the Range Rover Club...

    http://www.rangeroverclubnsw.asn.au/index.htm

They restricted membership to Range Rovers...when the Discovery came along membership was opened up to Discoveries.

The rationale being that each shared the same drivetrain and similar offroad abilities and mechanicals and travelling in like vehicles evened things out.

    Nothing more or less.

So don't get upset....there is nothing sinister or snobbish about it at all.

BTW I am not a member.

I must admit I like to keep my disco looking nice, the series when it's fixed up will be for more adventurous tracks but to me every scratch on the disco is like a medal of honour with it's own tale to be told.

The track we encountered yesterday was more for a swb vehicle like my mates old Rocky(no damage). The disco naturally got through it (with a slightly out of shape front bumper and half of the tracks clay stuck to it). I was tempted to take both cars back and show these guys which car came off better at the end.

At a meeting I attended a few months back, there was some discussion as to whether the RR Sport qualified for membership.

It was unanimous - it has a RR badge, it qualifies.
