Bloody jeep drivers

The 5 hook turns was a major question to get a Vic licence when I came to Oz in 1972. I thought it was weird at the time but at least it stopped most bingles at those intersections. The sergeant from Mordialloc Station who tested me warned me about the stupid give way to the right rule as well. "It's a big killer" he said.
I used to think Vic drivers were bad until I came to WA. :)

Had no idea about them when I went to Melbourne in '64 on a Vespa scooter. Yep the trams do go ding - ding - ding - and the police whistle goes pheeeeeet!

Would agree with that although the down side is the traffic can come to a stop as everyone is letting everyone in to the road right of way or not

The habits that get me are that they drive as far to the right of their lane as possible. Not uncommon for wheels to be over the centre line of the road. Think this is due to roads being narrow and lined with parked cars so easier to judge the drivers side of the car. The more you pull to the left the more they come across to your side of the road!!

Took some time to understand that indicators are only used as a statement of intent. Not used in normal driving however on the odd occasion you see them make room as they are coming across regardless of other traffic

And cyclists are allowed to use them at any intersection - and I do, as it's way safer than trying to turn right across traffic or getting in the way of cars turning right.

I was out at lunch one day about two years ago and there was a woman in a car with Qld number plates and a couple of kids and she was full-on panicking about how to turn right at Collins Street from Elizabeth Street so I did my best police-person impression and went onto Elizabeth Street and literally walked her through it.
