Since then, each commander-in-chief has been given a similar tribute as they leave office.
But in a major break with tradition, President Donald Trump will receive no such honour when his term ends this week.

I bet the Service Personnel are pleased.

It is obviously seen as an Honour. This guy is a disgrace & the word is he & she will slink out of the back gate. One assumes the staff will have carried out a good Stocktake of WH contents?

Some of their speeches have come back to haunt them. Long may they live so they can enjoy them.

    Taking the long view.
It really is a wake-up call for America, with a population over 300 MILLION, that the current and incoming 'leaders'.... are the Best they can Produce. ?

Too many of past / present Top dogs have blood on their hands or very shady pasts... Trump is merely a reflection of what CAN rise to the top in American Power.
Naturally, such moral decrepitude - real and imagined - or incompetence, or criminality potential in not found in the Westminster System.

(Though, looking at British 'tweets' would suggest that waste, incompetence. greed and treason is alive and well - unlike the NHS which via the govt, is paying Private Industry Track & Trace operators up to $1,000 per day. wages... Hope I read that right, dollars...not pounds...)

Suggestion for Serious Newspapers... (IF any still exist in Australia... )

A regular column or feature, weekly or monthly, reflecting back some years... on notable government Edicts, Statements etc, being 'remembered' for current voters... IMHO, a short life and shorter collective memory is the foundation for utterly stupid and dangerous governmental decisions being made... and, those idiots never paying for them. - Like cutting off their Parliamentary Pensions, putting them back with the Great Unwashed, on the standard Old Age Pension. Complete with Assets Test....

I can think of several. Such as decisions to sell off 'Cash cows' to private investors. Read "Faceless Foreign Rich", shutting down manufacturing industries, by edict, by running them down, by not supporting or Encouraging them.

Today, your underpants are not made in Australia. Nor shirts, or your washing machine. Or Fridge, stove or oven.

OPSM, which pivoted during WW2 to make artillerary (optical) sights - better than the originals! - was Australian. Today is not, But still have their specs made in China, like the Other big Spectacle company....
Anyone remember Uniroyal Tyres ? - Steel belted radials for cars etc with a 40,000km pro rata warranty ? Never a problem with mine.

No word on impeachment hearing date yet. Just as well, I guess. Here's something to prove there is nothing new under the sun.

In speeches filled with hatred and falsehoods, a public figure attacks his enemies and calls for marches on Washington. Then, after one particularly virulent address, private media companies close down his channels of communication, prompting consternation from his supporters and calls for a code of conduct to filter out violent rhetoric.

Sound familiar? Well, this was 1938, and the individual in question was Father Charles E. Coughlin, a Nazi-sympathizing Catholic priest with unfettered access to America’s vast radio audiences. The firms silencing him were the broadcasters of the day.

I think the Secret Service may be in two minds. A couple of years ago, I watched an interview with an ex-Secret Service agent, and apparently they are the ones that gave Biden his nickname 'Creepy Joe'...for his wandering hands...
The memes have already started, saying Biden will be a 'hands-on' president...well until Kamala takes over!

Whether the nickname's origin is true or not, there are heaps of photos and video footage of his hands - and nose, in inappropriate places on persons of the female persuasion (of ALL ages), going back 40+ years. Just don't use Google, but another search engine, like DuckDuckGo if you want to go for a looksee.

All joking aside though, the fact remains that of a country of 330+ million, these two were the best candidates they could come up with is a bit of a disgrace.

    Trump's pardons.
His decision to grant clemency to a raft of elected officials and business executives caught up in high-profile corruption cases also represented a final lashing out by Mr. Trump at a criminal justice system that he had come to view as unfairly hounding him and his allies. It came as the Senate prepared for his second impeachment trial, on a charge of inciting the deadly riot at the Capitol this month, and could be another factor in influencing whether Republicans join Democrats in voting to convict him.

I read somewhere online that these PARDONS are not a freebee gift from Trump but will cost the culprits a couple of million$ each.

The bastard wins every which way.
