Are you sure about that? Are you towing something behind the motorhome?

My Defender with the camper on the back and kayaks on top is over height and over length, but because it is classified as a motorhome, it goes for the same price as a small sedan.

Checked late last night after posting with some dates and to see what we could be up for - you're correct - it doesn't cost any more than a car! It's a caravan that will hurt you. I thought the height might be an issue but it appears not!

That would be ideal, but we can only manage 2 weeks this year - will concentrate on the East Coast but would also love to spend some time out the West too, but will make that a separate trip with a 4WD I think.

    Hi,
Most of the 4wd tracks link in with maintained roads either end. Some don't, but you won't see everything in one lifetime anyway.
If the choice was between B class motorhome and 4wd/camping to see Tas, bring the motorhome - the choice of overnight spots at carparks, trail heads, turnouts etc will be greater. If you like solitary camps of course.
    Cheers

Thanks - yes, we’d like to free camp as much as possible, motorhome is fully self contained including grey water storage. Probably only look for a caravan park a couple of times for washing clothes and having a longer shower. Wanna go to Tassie?

I’ve heard Tas is much more friendly to free camping than Vic for example - I’m assuming if you aren’t allowed to camp somewhere they’ll be signs? Generally we like to be as far from others as possible but the motorhome may make things a little harder as it’s not as compact as my other camping options. (but far more comfortable) Wanna go to Tassie?

Went to Tasmania couple of years back , everyone said we would only need a week , BULL we didn't even scratch the surface of 1/4 of it in two weeks . There is so much to see , we would have only have seen a tenth if that of the 1/4 we travelled . Love that place , hope to get back some time .
