Nah. Vic spared no expense. Probably be paying for it for decades, like the DeSal plant and the Belt and Braces thing. Nobody could pay what we did just for a permit for some sheep.... Could they?

Well, with great trepidation we left yesterday morning armed with permits stuck to the inside of our windscreen and snuck down to Albury. After filling up with fuel we headed across the causeway to the border barricade. The nice policewoman asked to see our licences and when we pointed out the permits on the passengers site said that she wasn't walking around the other side to check them and waved us though. After noting that no one else had permits stuck to their windows we pulled ours off and stuck them in the glovebox as we passed Wangaratta. Aside from the usual plethora of tolls and speed cameras it was a quick trip to Hallam and back to Albury where our hotel appeared to be about 80% full of Vicpol public response police and their tactical Klugers. Oh well, glad to see a NSW business profiting form this stupidity, there mustn't be any accommodation of a suitable standard in Woodonga.

I have entered a canoe race that finishes in Albury and since the race is down the Murray River, it is all in NSW.

However, the start is on the Victorian bank.

So I have applied for and been granted a permit even though I only need to go a few metres into Victoria for less than an hour.

Maybe the organising club will be able to organise some sort of exemption or perhaps they can find a spot on the NSW bank where it is possible to launch, so I won't need the permit.

It is a bit more complicated for the Victorian paddlers. The finish is in NSW and the water they will be paddling on is part of NSW.

Thanks but I need to discuss some business face to face but it can wait - based on Tote's experience it looks as if the system is working Ok. I should only need to be there overnight but if I need to extend then based on current rules there could be issues but I think the need to be tested within 72hours etc will probably change soon.

    Cheers

If you are coming from a green zone there is no requirement to get tested, just fill out the permit and you are good. There's also no need to choose between the 24 hour permit and the longer stay one that required a covid test if coming from a green zone. The permit is multiple entry and valid for a couple of weeks.
It only gets complicated if you are coming from an orange or red zone.

Just gotta love their zones - Wagga with its dense population is green but the sparsely-populated farming area to the north is orange.

I may want to make a brief visit to western Vic shortly so I would overnight on the NSW side, only contaminating Vic for a few hours.

All NSW except Sydney is green at the moment Graeme so you should be able to sneak over without too much hassle. You need to check the website regularly in case they change their mind. Victorian Travel Permit System | Coronavirus Victoria
