    AUSTRALIAN OF THE YEAR.......

    Well, what did you think?

    5 women took the gongs.

A seemingly unenthusiastic PM introduced the winners.

Magaret has caused some division. I remember when her views were main stream , but today most Aussies are more inclusive, and accepting. I'm on the fence a bit, don't want to denigrate Margaret, but I believe we have moved on from those days. It's unfortunate, but was always going to be devisive, and makes one wonder why they selected her. They must have known.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

This is a good article on the unknowns recipients of the awards, perhaps over shadowed by the higher profile , some what controversial ones.

Yet another example of what a fantastic job a ‘good’ book does in dividing people.

And why the heck upgrade her award? For playing bloody tennis?

How do they decide who gets an award ,is it like a Morgan Gallop poll where you ask 1/2 a dozen people and you get a percentage and that gives the results, leaving you wondering who got polled? I mean you cant tell me out of all the nominations received Margret's name popped up so many times that she was chosen?

it appears the Governor General and a commitee of 19 makes the choice from the nominations

Yes, would be better to give her an award if she agreed to keep her big mouth shut!

Oh! Kerry, media person. He was good at what he was perceived to accomplish, but really, who gives a rat sars. 'Big John Zupp' received an award for selling cars, in '08 from memory and I'd put more credence in that than anything involving the media.

An Australian of the year needs to be an aspirational and positive role model who brings out a better Australian and who represents us as a country in a positive light.

Margaret needs to drag her entitled face into the year 2000.

They gave one to Sir Robert Helpman for bloody dancing, Sir Jack Brabham for racing bloody cars, The Seekers for bloody singing, Lionel Rose for bloody hitting people, Evonne Goolagong for, wait for it, playing bloody tennis, Shane Gould for bloody swimming, Neville Bonner for being a bloody politician, Robert de Castella for bloody running, Paul Hogan for being bloody Mick Dundee, John Farnham for being a bloody voice, Alan Border for playing bloody cricket, Manawuy Yunuupingu for bloody singing, Cathy Freeman for bloody running, Mark Taylor for playing bloody cricket, Steve Waugh ditto, Tim Flannery for being a blood scaremonger, Ita Buttrose for being who knows what, Adam Goodes for being a bloody ok AFL player, and I could go on and on.

I'm with you on the "good" book thing, Mike. ALL the supposed good books are hugely divisive. Mein Kampf was a beauty.

Have to say that I disagree. I think we are more divided now than ever in my lifetime, and we aren't allowed to say so.

And who the hell cares what Red Kerry thinks?
