Sex and gender are different things - sex, as in chromosomal sex, is just biology. Gender (masculine, feminine etc) is socially constructed and can change. The problem is that, in an apparent attempt to be .... I don’t know, cool .... lots of government departments and other groups decided in the 90s that they would describe sex as gender, which it’s not, and have done a disservice to everyone. Kind of like how they went through a stage of describing all Aboriginal people as Koori, until Aboriginal groups in northern NSW started saying, no Kooris around here we’re Murri .... When I’m filling in forms I usually cross out “gender” and write “sex” and then tick the correct box.Quote:
