Came up tonight, moons ago I fitted HID lamps to my D2. Haven't used them for more than 4 years, and now I see they are really quite hopeless, but look good to others...(?) I also fitted LEDs to the D1, and the Ford...ditto.

I fitted expensive globes to the ford previously and they lasted less than 6 weeks. Possibly they got too hot in the enclosures, i don't know.

There are some lighting gurus here. What recommendations do you have?

Correction & a caution:- they’re RALLY VISION and a LOOM UPGRADE is a must do because the column stalk switch and factory wiring will not cope with the higher current that the globes draw. Smoke will come out H4 globe choices

Finally blown the low beam on one the Phillips Plus 130's.

Wanted either Phillips or Osram and every Narva headlight globe I've bought over the last 20 years was an Osram.
Looks like that isn't the case any longer.
Just bought some Narva's and they are branded Alite, made in the PRC H4 globe choices

I would've hunted for a set of Philips or Osram if I'd known that.

I fitted a set of 130 Phillips H4 globes into the low beams of my D2a about 5 years ago and they are still working just fine even though I always have my low beams on when driving

Thanks, Trout. I have driven with lows on for 25 years at least. I'll give 'em a go.

I used them on my old D1 and they would blow after a few months, ended up making the globe connector brittle from heat.
I ended up making a loom with relays and heavier gauge wire to fix this.
apart from the poor wiring on Landies I reckon these globes run hotter than standard.

They have to, to create the light, H4 globe choices (as well as the exotic gas mix the filament is in) which is why their life is shorter.

I’ve only used regular globes so far including the coloured, and the plus ?’s, but the best that I’ve use so far is a Traxide headlight loom with 90/100W globes - you need the loom for these globes, the factory plugs will melt. They’re still not a patch on my Audi headlights but probably as good as ****ty H4’s get.
    Cheers
