A roll of the black self adhesive 50mm wide stuff could be had from a $2 shop for.......... $2.

Haven't seen any stock it for awhile. Sure beat paying $17 a roll at the mainstream hardware joints.

We used to use Epsom salts under/in a good epoxy paint. It was pretty neutral for the paint, but as any got exposed with wear it would slowly dissolve leaving hard ridges and bumps of paint behind. Always found the sand would just rub out over time.

    Thanks Brad, another useful idea.

Over the years I've used sugar or salt over a thin layer of polyester resin on the decks of custom windsurfers for a lasting, comfortable grip for bare feet. Resin lightly applied with a squeegee, took a bit of skill. A light sand and liberal water dissolved the 'moulds' leaving a nice finish.

On racing yachts crushed and sieved almonds were used in 2 pack PU so expensive wet weather gear didn't wear through. (not my concept)

On the decks of cray boats quartz sand was scattered on a rolled polyester resin flow coat then another coat was rolled over as the first started to harden to hold the grains in place. Generally good for 20 years. WA boats had grains of rutile.

The black tape is pretty good for a lot of applications where footwear is used.

    cheers, DL

Couple of weld beads should do the trick!

Use a second coat to hold the grains in place and it'll last.

I just replaced a cheapo rolling scaff deck with marine ply and used a thick acrylic paint on top to throw the sand in for grip and then 2 coats over the top to hold the grains. All good. Will last for years, cheap as ........... well..... cheap.

Been using the scaff to line the ceiling in the mezz of my shed.

    cheers, DL

There's a tape they use on the edge of stair treads that might work.
I have some somewhere, used it on a caravan drawbar to stop slipping when putting up the awning.

Thank you to all who responded. There are some good ideas there, so now it is a matter of deciding which way to go.

Even better if you can get a bad welder to do it, so you'll have spatter surrounding the welds as well.
