Completely Off Theme - DVD Copying

My Son is home on leave and brought a zillion (well not quite a Zillion) DVD's home with him I'd like to be able to make a back-up copy of some of them for him I have just burnt one - took about 2 hours - works on the computer but not on the dvd player. Does any kind soul out there know of a good dvd copying program that makes copies that can be used on dvd players? The one I used was clone dvd and burnt with nero. As I said the dvd plays on the computer but not on the dvd player

its probably not the burning program, its more than likely the dvd player. try the disc in other players before changing programs. but if you do change programs use dvd shrink with nero.

Yes, I'd like to know, too. I've tried DVD Decrypter but copies of even unprotected files are really hit and miss.

There have been suggestions that the DVDs I'm using are no good. I owe RichardK about 10 DVDs of stuff and I can't make a successful copy or burn a successful DVD of miscellaneous AVI/MPGs etc., I've downloaded.

I'm actually thinking of buying another burner to put in my desktop PC 'cos the laptop's one doesn't seem to work very well.

I use Clone to burn as well, never had a prob, and I've done a heap in a few different players, like CDs tho, I have found some cheap discs wont play in certain players.

I use DVD shrink then Nero to burn - found if you burn on slowest speed x2.4 in my case then it increases the chances of it working on my older Sony DVD player, whereas my cheap new DVD player plays everything!!!

dvd decripter is mainly used to copy an image to the hard drive to burn at a later date. some of the more expensive dvd players will not read overseas dvd's or play copied discs unless a region free code (which you can get off the net) has been programed via the remote into the dvd player.

DVDshrink is what I use with Nero for the burning. Most common problem I have found is the Player. Cheap players are better for testing your backups than the expensive ones. I also find better success with -R over +R. As for cheap disks I pay $20 for 50 disks.

I use DVD Shrink to rip the file and Pinnacle Instant DVD to burn have not had one fail yet. For harder DVDs like Disney I use DVD Decrypter to decrypt, DVD shrink to backup and analyse then Pinnacle Instant DVD to burn. Takes on average 1.5hrs to backup a disc.
