Is Optima still "the" second battery.

Dunno if you need worry, Lionel. You aren't looking for an AGM for that application. 6 volt batteries aren't so common these days, and the Optima red will probably be as good as anything else. Just keep the receipt.

However, I have had some good experiences with Bond batteries here in Vic. Might be worth a call to see if they have any 6V stuff. Freight could be an issue though.

This is why I have been promoting SSBs HVT range of batteries.

Thanks mate. I didn't know the OP was asking about second batteries for your systems. I was only thinking of second batteries for use with fridges etc more generally. The little Full River I have been using in a kayak, in salt water conditions, and to start a large ride on mower. Really abusing its capacities but its about 5 years old now and still going. Much like my 130amp hour Full River. Cheers

Fully agree

Like everything these days nothing lasts like it used to

I had one last 15 years till the alternator cooked it (US made)
The past two have barely made it to five years before losing a cell
(Made in Mexico)
Just switched the second battery in the 110 to a SSB from the recommendations around here

.. if you remember where and when you bought it, you DON'T need your proof of purchase. They should have it stored on their system.

A LOT of places try to pull this stuff .. but consumer law is pretty clear on this.
