There is much more to the Suez Canal than just a ditch in the desert:

The Suez Canal has a daily capacity of approximately 50 – 85 vessels, with vessels entering from both sides. This navigation simulation from the official Suez Canal Authority (SCA) illustrates the margins very well as hundreds of ships are caught up in the traffic snarl caused by the canal being blocked.

Suez Canal: Ship blockage may be due to 'human errors'

Suez Canal: Ship blockage may be due to ′human errors′ | News | DW | 27.03.2021

Egypt's Suez Canal chief says strong winds and weather weren't the main reasons the ship ran aground. The Ever Given has been wedged across the canal since Tuesday, blocking the way for other maritime traffic.

The head of Egypt's Suez Canal Authority, Osama Rabie, said Saturday that "technical or human errors" may be to blame for the grounding of a giant container ship
    in the crucial waterway.

Ship blocking Suez Canal finally FREED

Ever Given ship blocking Suez Canal finally freed (yahoo.com)

A cargo ship which has caused chaos after being trapped in the Suez canal has finally been freed.

The MV Ever Given, a Panama-flagged, Japanese-owned ship that carries cargo between Asia and Europe, got stuck Tuesday in a single-lane stretch of the Suez Canal.
In the time since, authorities had been unable to unstick the vessel and traffic through the canal — valued at over US$9 billion a day — has been halted, further disrupting a global shipping network already strained by the coronavirus pandemic.

On Sunday about 4.30am (local time), teams managed to finally free the ship, maritime services provider Inchcape tweeted.
“She is being secured at the moment,” it tweeted.
“More information about next steps will follow once they are known.”

What I have seen is a statement that the stern is now free, at least to the extent that the rudder and prop can both turn freely. But while a lot of sand has been moved from round the bow, it now appears it may be sitting on rock. Not as easy to remove that with a suction dredge.

I heard it was free but needed to be surveyed for structural damage.

Reasonably decent consumption. What’s he operating?

Our tank farms are 54,000l each. There’s 4 of them.

    They’re re-filled every 48 hours.
