    What's the best???

    What's the best LR ever? From the first ever, to the new Defender, what are your votes? My thoughts would be keep it unstructured, so a D4 has the same cachet as a Series 1. But who cares what I think?

    So, I'll kick in a car I have never driven, but is proven, the Perentie. It had all the sort of kick ass stuff I saw on the old Military IIa stuff I dealt with, but was far better thought out and was above all reliable. Isuzu. Nuff said.

    RRC or Perentie IMO.

    Same reasons as Ian for the D1, but I like the shape of the RRC better and the Perentie is just brilliant all around.

    My top five:

    1. Defender 2014 / 2015 is the best and most refined of the iconic hereditary from Series to Defender. Severely underrated in its day with new prices under $50K...only now is it being properly valued in the market.

    2. Defender 1998 300 Tdi, sweet economical engine, bulletproof driveline, last of the simple non-computerised true bush 4x4s.

    3. Perentie late model, super HD, Isuzu, iconic yes. But its unrefined beauty is also its Achilles heel, noisy, thirsty, hot, cold, etc.

    4. RRC iconic and brilliant innovator of the breed.

    5. New Defender is the most innovative and capable of all Land Rovers. Best and Brilliant vehicle in Land Rover’s capitulation to a single vehicle class - the luxury touring SUV.

    Disco’s have always been a compromise between Range Rover and Defender. But they are an absolute bargain second hand.

    Define best - most lusted after in my case.

    NAS Spec v8 Defender 90 (or one of the Puma ones they rebuilt after production finished, I'm not fussy)

    New Defender with the supercharged v8. That motor is just Soooooo good in my RRS that I desire another one.

    What I lust for mostly at this point is a bit of a frankenstein but;

    A wolf 110 defender station, so no rear doors (everything is stronger)
    with a rover V8 (since diesels are no longer feasible around here and that's not getting any better)

    The "best"? of course, a P38 but I guess I am biased a lot
