Anzac Day. We shouldn't have to hide this year.

At least this year I shouldn't have to sneak down like a mongrel dog the lay a wreath for my Great GF, GF, and Father. A song from Tony Cook.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

We shouldn't have had to hide last year either. But cancel culture will come for The Dawn Service. If we don't take a stand then then we never will.

Yes I think it's absolute rubbish from Daniel Andrews here in Vic as well. Only 1400 service men and women allowed to the shrine of remembrance, but a few hours later there will be 75,000 people at the MCG for the footy. I hope people turn up in thousands at the shrine to remember all the lives lost.

There will be only one main service this year in Sandgate, the 5 AM Dawn Service in Memorial Park, then a march at 9.15 . After the march service and ex-service members will be invited back to the Sub-branch. There will be no service after the march. During the last year , Sub-branch members had to physically get out and identify local veterans who needed help, and in some cases door knock individuals to check on their welfare. The Sandgate Sub-branch enlisted the help of the community, businesses , and the Veterans Motorcycle Club, [ who were incredibly valuable during the pandemic. ]

What we should realise is that the decision as to how many gather at one time is determined by the RSL, taking into account the age and health of older veterans. Government follows the advice of the RSL. The health and well being of these older veterans is the determining factor. And so it should be.

    Heads up to anybody interested.

If I understood her correctly, on Anzac Day Landline is going to broadcast a segment about "Bill the Bastard" and the bronze statue in his honour now on display in Murrumburrah NSW.

I have recently read a book about him, and what he did in WW1.

Letitia Leake used $40m inheritance to help 50,000 wounded Anzacs during WWI

Letitia Leake used $40m inheritance to help 50,000 wounded Anzacs during WWI - ABC News

When World War I began, a squatter's daughter from South Australia was living in a stately British home.

She was worth the equivalent of more than $40 million and had ties with the royal family, but rather than keep the horrors of war at a distance, she opened her doors and cared for 50,000 wounded Anzac soldiers on her estate during the conflict.
