Privacy groups may be shattered to see the Police created a encrypted comms app. With the likes of APPLE refusing to allow law enforcement to see criminals access to iphones the criminal geniuses who used and shared the police created AN0M app them did their thing.

Anyone wonder if the bright spark who convinced the other crims to ditch their apples might be in a little hot water with his mates
Note apple hack is a given.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
I would love to be in the know around the decision making on when to go public and do the raids. That would have been very interesting balancing the possibility of gaining new information vs arresting those that they had on the hook and how many crims you could quietly arrest without tipping off how you found out their secrets.

In detailed articles about this apparently it took the investigators months in some cases to work out the id of who was messaging.
It must have become obvious from the knowledge gained over time that the number of 'correspondents' was no longer increasing, the school of fish were all in the net, hence the busts.

You are indeed correct Tote. Sounds like the same issue the Brits had in WWII when they broke the German Enigma Code’s, after which they had to disguise where they got their intel.
I’m pretty sure a decrypt in 1941 showed that the city of Coventry was about to be heavily bombed, leaving the Brits in an agonising position. Do you throw up massed night fighters on the night of the raid - which would have instantly tipped the Germans off to a possible cypher leak, or do you husband your intel resources? I’m glad I’m not making those decisions!
Life is just a series of obstacles preventing you from taking a nap.
It also has a pay-day if it places doubts among the crims on other 'real' encryption apps.
I wonder where one, H. Ayik is, right now?

Reading this morning, it seems the bust was triggered by the expiration of a court order that enabled the participation of one of the overseas agencies. Very clever project though, apparently with a specialised handset that was purchased to access the app presumably giving a greater level of assurance of its security.
