    Good Neighbour's

Yesterday afternoon out neighbour from across the road came knocking at our front door, he asked me if we had had a delivery the night before at 3.06am . I said no so he gave me a dongle & said it was footage from there front security camera showing a ute pulling up out side our garage & a guy getting out & entering our garage. There were 3 video's , the 1st was from the night before when the same ute drove up the street at 3am , 2nd was the ute driving up the street before turning all the lights on so the image of the vehicle was just a big bright blur, the 3rd showed the ute backing back down the street 14minuts after he went into our garage . The ute was like a service truck with a large fiberglass body on the back , there was a company name on the side of the back but the morning was very misty & image was blurred so could not read the name, the ute had lot's of lights so when they were all on you could just make out the outline of the ute . I then viewed the footage from our cameras only to find there was no night time footage , only day time. After checking the settings of our cameras I found the sensitivity was set on low which occurred a couple of years ago when we had a lightning strike taking out some of our cameras & our insurance sent a guy in to replace the system & he told me he had set it up & I would not have to touch it . I have now reset it on high & all working ok now.
I also took the footage to the police hoping they could enhance the image without luck but have done a report & will keep a eye out on night patrol for the ute. They also said there had been a lot of car brake in's & stolen cars recently. This is the second time this good neighbour has picked up unwanted vehicles in the street .
I am now thinking of upgrading my camera's & doubling the number that I have

Our system gives notifications when a camera detects someone.
Our home automation even announces it very loudly so if we’re asleep we wake up to it.

Impossible to get around our place unnoticed Good Neighbour's

Ive added an extra dimension in that during certain hours during the night, if movement is detected certain interior and exterior lights come on in sequence to replicate somebody “getting up to check”. Freaked an unwanted visitor a while back, causing them to flee.

    Worth consideration.

Ours dose also but I have sound turned down as every time dog moves out side back door the thing beeps, unfortunatly he is blind & almost deaf so dose not hear intruders. He also seams to wander around a lot more during the night than day time when he mostly sleeps.

Sounds very good! What system(s) did you install?

As we renovate I’m getting neutrals installed with all new light switches in preparation for some HA system.

The house is a hybrid using Alexa as a control.

Ring Cameras, supported by UPS to maintain even when power fails. The cameras identify animals without alert and only report humans on selected units.

Mesh network by Ubiquiti across the premises and workshop.
Phillips Hue and compatible devices, as well as Samsung SmartThings.
There’s also smart switches, plugs, roller door controllers, motion sensors, Ceiling fan, AC control, home theatre controls etc

Zigbee and WiFi versions as required. Hardwired where possible abs during renovations will all be upgraded.

Motion sensors are great for driving automations.
We have a 3yr old Grandson who can use the toilet but not reach the light switches - motion sensors fix that by switching lights and fans on at night for him and then back off.

I even have the garden pond automated for pump etc.
And we have automated dog feeders with cameras Good Neighbour's

    Good Neighbour's

I now have 3 high quality cameras out the front rather than the Bunnings or ebay jobs and they do a great job. I have assisted my neighbours over the road track down a car that ran into one of theirs late one night with the footage.

Those same neighbours get a lot of visitors - mostly at night - I know what they do but they’re good lads so I don’t rock the boat and as they know how good the cameras are now they’ve seen the footage first hand (and commented that I could read the number places of their cars) so there’s nothing untoward happens in the street. Wooahh - not a trivial setup Mike. Don’t know where you get all your time!

What’s the central control system - Home Assistant?

This is only the second time in 38 years we have had some one enter our property , the 1st time was at 3am also on Christmas Eve , the dog was not blind then & he soon sorted the intruder out when he was trying to get in the back door. He is a big boy our Pip.
