Compared to many other countries, Australia has an effective tax system & more controlled monetary system.

Australia also has a forced saving policy in the form of superannuation which provides a long term infrastructure investment fund.

It’s not all rainbows and unicorns, but we’re pretty fortunate.

Rio was bankrupted and Athens may have tipped Greece into the GFC. Sydney while considered successful didn't generate the touted tourist income of an extra 8 -10 million visitors annually and less than 100,000 for the duration of the Olympics.

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I'm afraid you're correct, my brother attended and the transport was appalling. I have a horrible feeling that 2nd prize would've been being awarded 2 Olympic games.

A shame John Clarke is not around. A sequel is in the offering.

London Olympics were done on the cheap as much as possible to keep costs down. London does not have a lot of good sporting facilities so many sporting venues were cheap pop up type which were removed as soon as the event was over minimizing disruption and costs

One cunning plan which was knocked back was an attempt by London to have an Olympic surcharge added to the rates of every property in the country on the basis that all would benefit from the games and so should contribute

Biggest ‘problem’ they were left with was the stadium for which they had not pre agreed an ongoing tenant. Once the games are over the negotiation power goes to the tenant and as a result London is still paying due to this

With the lack of competition for the win Brisbane has the chance to stand up to the Olympic committee organizers who will seek to spend lots of your cash

We may not have Clarke and Dawes anymore but hopefully Roy and HG are still around to put it all in perspective for us!
