let this be a warning to all. if you don't own a D2, it may make you look really clever in front of some hot babe the does own one.
a couple of weeks ago, my missus stopped in a BP servo to get some diesel, she usually gets her fuel from caltex as she has a card, but she'd forgotten to fill up the night before and it was geting real low.
as she left the car to go and pay, she pressed the button on the key to lock the car and nothing happened. she tried again and still nothing happened. WTF, she thought and went in to pay.
she came out, jumped in the car and it wouldn't start. tried everything, even the keyed code you use on the driver's door lock when your key battery dies. even that didn't work.
in the end, land rover assist turned up (the NRMA), and still he couldn't get it started. so to free up the pumps at the servo, he towed her out and on to the road. she tried it again and it started.
Why is it so?
apparently, the radio fields put out by some point of sale laser bar code readers, interfere with the land rover security systems. these are common outside "chem-mart" chemists and it seems, some BP servos.

Yes, there was a post some time ago on this.
Apparantly if you stop outside the Post Office in Inverloch - past Phillp Island here in Vic- the same will happen- something to do with the Chemist shop. The Racv printed an article on it as the patrolman has towed half a dozen series 2's now and is getting tired of it. The disco's start 100m down the road no probs.

Years ago it used to be a problem for commodores and telstra sites, we had to ensure we took the keys out of the vehicle because the tower would lock and unlock the car during the day. A few guys had extended lunches waiting for their cars to unlock again![]()

SI Disco: Poor Range for 315MHz Security Remote (

May be if you do this mod on alarm it will cause more problems.
The poor range may be a factory Quick fix for the above reason.(Barney's problem)
Barney have you done any mods. to your alarm ?
no, it's absolutely standard.
in this instance, it was at the BP on powderworks rd in elanora heights.
by now though, it may already be closed down. it's on the hit list.
if you really get stuck and can't tow your car, you could get the shop keeper to turn his scanners off for a second while you get going, and if he doesn't want to do that for you, you can always threaten to get the EPA onto his sorry butt. i'm sure they would be interested in electromagnetic interference. the radio waves they emit shouldn't be that powerfull, i'm sure there's a law against these things

There was an article on that in LROI a while ago, very interesting and annoying. Matt
