Only if politicians and the media start having a proper discussion about the real health crisis in Australia. They need to talk about the real reasons our hospitals are full and why some states were having ambulance ramping issues even when there were no Covid cases.

If you do get Covid and die from lung cancer we will even chalk it up as a Covid death - may even help you get a life insurance payout. Plus for platinum members we will cancel elective surgery to free up hospital bed space for you.

It is like something out of Yes Minister.

I can't help but wonder if, now that things have settled down a bit, more folk are "saying" they have HAD (note past tense) Covid but may have just had a sniffle or two & felt a bit crook due to other activities & so will relax all the advised precautions?

Our next doors (no, not the froggie bloke [bigsad]) was saying that as he was watching TV one recent night he suddenly felt a high temperature come over him, but it passed. He said he had been vaxxed but without some sort of proof others could never know. If I hear that he has been admitted to the RAH or died I won't bother going for the invited Dinner.
Although it would be rude not to.[biggrin]

Maybe it was caused by what he was watching? Yer know. "Behind closed doors" stuff.

Given the quite rapid spike in cases in WA in the last week it looks like it’s found it’s way in.

What you talking about Willis?

There is no Covid outbreak in WA - the border closures took care of that.

So, rather than baiting you, exactly how do you see this playing out? It is extremely unlikely in a highly vaccinated population with a significant number of people who also have an acquired immunity that reducing restrictions will make any difference.
A summary of the restriction changes is below:
From the beginning of Friday, 18 February 2022, the following adjustments will be made to the current settings:

No density limits (previously one person per 2sqm for hospitality venues);
QR check-ins will only be required for nightclubs, and for all music festivals with more than 1,000 people. Hospitals, aged and disability facilities may use their existing systems for recording visitors;
Singing and dancing will be permitted at all venues, except music festivals, where singing and dancing can recommence from 25 February;
The recommendation to work from home will change and be returned to the employer’s discretion.
From the beginning of Friday, 25 February 2022, the following adjustments will be made to the settings:

Masks will only be mandated on public transport, planes, and indoors at airports, hospitals, aged and disability care facilities, corrections facilities, and indoor music festivals with more than 1,000 people;
Masks are encouraged for indoor settings where you cannot maintain a safe distance from others and for customer-facing retail staff to protect vulnerable people who must access these premises and services;
Each State Government agency will review where it may be appropriate for public-facing staff to wear masks and will implement as necessary; and
The 20,000 person cap on music festivals will be removed, with singing and dancing permitted. Vaccination requirements will remain for indoor music festivals over 1,000 people, with attendees required to have at least two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine.


It would be interesting to know which of these changes is likely to set off a large increase in cases, maybe that could be compared with the risk of letting a "dirty" football team loose in Perth airport and hotels.[bigwhistle]

As it appears a majority of Western Australians no longer give a **** (as evidenced by the persistently low testing numbers) we wouldn't know. Where it's going to show its colours is in hospitalisations and deaths, and we don't appear to be there quite yet. Still, the heath system here was cripped prior to the current outbreak, so it's only a matter of time.

We do have 2 things going for and one against us though. Distance, Population density and a dense population.

On a personal note, my old man is booked in for a lung resection on the 1st of March, so we're all hiding at home under the covers until that is done and dusted. Not scared of COVID as such, just taking extra precautions to avoid anything that might delay the surgery.
