Only if politicians and the media start having a proper discussion about the real health crisis in Australia. They need to talk about the real reasons our hospitals are full and why some states were having ambulance ramping issues even when there were no Covid cases.
Our leaders have been so focused on telling people to wear a mask (and instructing the police to fine people for not wearing a mask), that we have missed an opportunity for an even more powerful health awareness campaign during the biggest pandemic in a century.
I support the mask rules, but in Victoria when mask wearing was required outdoors in open spaces, one of the legit reasons for not wearing a mask was if you were smoking!
So a non-smoker could of been fined for not wearing a mask and putting smokers at risk of getting Covid.
As long as those tax revenues keep coming in then smoke as much as you want - and as a bonus we won’t even fine you for not wearing a mask. If you do get Covid and die from lung cancer we will even chalk it up as a Covid death - may even help you get a life insurance payout. Plus for platinum members we will cancel elective surgery to free up hospital bed space for you.
It is like something out of Yes Minister.
