I agree entirely. The kids I talk to (i.e. my grandchildren and their friends mainly) are much more sensible about this pandemic (and a lot of other things as well) than some of the adults I know, let alone the real idiots who show up on line or in the news.

Many years ago, before I was married, I had my oldest great nephew spend his school holidays with me when he was 10. This was when I realised that a kid of that age can think just as well as an adult - just lacking knowledge and experience (he is now a WO1 in the army!).

I can have an intelligent, well-informed conversation about the pandemic with my 11yo grand daughter - who is bemoaning the fact that she can't get the vaccine yet. Mind you, her 15,21,and 23yo sisters have so far been unable to either, although the 23yo is hopeful as she is an essential worker. But for the other two, earliest appointments seem to be around late October.

Ice bucket challenge and discomfort rather than pain, Long distance runner apparently cope with discomfort of a ice bucket challenge better than most Des. I feel a lot more pain in my current short arse runs and slow pain while appreciating not being dead is very very lucky[thumbsupbig] while seeming a little off topic 4 people in my house got a little discomfort from a vaccine. A day on the couch and a panadol or two fixed those people. I have to rebuild a lot of leg muscles to fix my issue and look forward to the pain/discomfort getting me the 42.2km 10 October- Going to do it on crutches if needed and all by myself if the run is cancelled this year.

I want a bit less than 10 times yesterdays discomfort and 1000 times plus the number of enthusiastic younger people happily asking for a little ***** in the arm[thumbsupbig]

Noting I can help a little and not everyone. Running, walking or the effort of Mario to get off the porch or into a boat is all the same. Do what you can and enjoy the discomfort life can be at times.

The pup running around like a nutter makes me think of my first, second and third dog. Mika the Lab, will be here for a short time relatively only. Its one step at a time in life no matter what we are doing.

I see New York City has mandated that spectators must have had at least one jab or they will be denied entry to the US Open Tennis starting on Tuesday.
I wonder if Melbourne will impose the same rule for the Australian Open in January.
Proof of vaccination is likely to become a standard entry requirement in many places.
QR codes could be added to vaccination certificates to use on entry. I believe NSW is already investigating this.
QR codes could also be added to border pass applications online, so to get a pass you would have to scan your VAX certificate.
Seems to be the way this is going.

Hospitals with low O2 is a stuff up plus. Hope with the numbers going up we do not join the foreseeable stuff up [bigwhistle] Hope I am a worry wort and not a fortune teller!!! It is clearly not a issue here at the moment.

Sorry but no. A National Average vaccination % is NOT treating the country as a whole entity, because vaccination distribution / rates are not equal across the whole population. Therefore the so called national average is clearly and significantly biased towards the jurisdictions with higher vaccination rates - clearly the opposite of treating the country as a whole entity.

80% vaccination of the whole entity is only true if 80% of the entire population in every jurisdiction is double vaccinated.

Currently access to vaccinations across the continent is not equal therefore any national average is based on false assumptions.

I think you are missing the point. Of course there are going to be variations in vax rates across the country as there are between states, rural and urban, LGAs, even suburbs. This is just a way to show when Australia, based on the vax rate for the whole country, will reach a given milestone. Is this not exactly what is done for every other country when when forecasting what vax level they have reached and when? How else would it be expressed?

As I said, I agree with you that the date has no bearing on what will happen with restrictions.... it's just when the country as a whole reaches a certain milestone.

Anyway, the original post was about whether or not we might reach the 80% milestone by Christmas, even basing it on the slowest state that looks very likely to be, yes.

You need to have a look at what "opening up" might entail. It seems you think that it means everyone is suddenly going to start running around kissing and hugging each other.

As to when and how "opening up" happens, well, lets just wait and see before we start thinking about whether or not the sky is going to fall on our heads.
