Seeing the turn-around made me reassess our personal preparedness and vulnerabilities here for a similar situation in NZ if Delta starts beating our systems. I know we will eventually have to live with it once our vaccine rate is sufficient here but the suddenness of the situation turning in Victoria was sadly eye-opening.

I suspect that you'd need an NZ-style stage 4 lockdown to beat Delta, because it's infectiousness means that anything more open will lead to spread.

Well wrong as usual - the 70% is not a magic NSW number it is a number agreed at National Cabinet by all Premiers but some like your Premier have walked away from what they agreed (all States reaffirmed commitment at last weeks National Cabinet meeting).

I can accept Premiers making their own decisions but they should have to courage to not sign up if they don't agree rather than sign up and then say no.

NHS England >> NHS sets up specialist young people’s services in PS100 million long COVID care expansion

The NHS is setting up specialist long COVID services for children and young people as part of a £100 million expansion of care for those suffering from the condition.
The 15 new paediatric hubs will draw together experts on common symptoms such as respiratory problems and fatigue who can directly treat youngsters, advise family doctors or others caring for them or refer them into other specialist services and clinics.
Some £30 million will also go to GPs to improve diagnosis and care for those with long COVID while the new investment will also boost online services.
The boost to dedicated services for young people is part of a package of investment in a range of measures to help young people and adults with long COVID, including a major focus on specialist treatment and rehab services.
Some estimates suggest that 340,000 people may need support for the condition including 68,000 who will need rehab or other specialist treatment.
Sir Simon Stevens will set out the plan to deal with the COVID ‘legacy’ at the annual NHS Confederation conference.
Sir Simon Stevens, NHS chief executive, is expected to say: “The NHS has worked hard to care for 400,000 COVID patients requiring hospital treatment and keep essential services going through successive waves and we now need to step up action to deal with the legacy.
“One of the major health challenges emerging from the pandemic is long COVID with hundreds of thousands of people predicted to suffer debilitating health issues such as breathing problems and fatigue.
“That is why the NHS is now going to invest £100 million in specialist services, including care for children and young people so that parents know advice is on hand through the new hubs to provide patients and their families with the help, support and care that they need.
“This is just the latest example of how NHS staff have pulled out all the stops to provide care for those who need it throughout this terrible pandemic.”
More than one million people have reported suffering from long COVID, according to the Office for National Statistics.
Symptoms include shortness of breath and extreme fatigue with almost a third of sufferers saying it has a significant impact on their daily life.
While the majority of children and young people are not severely affected by COVID, ONS data has shown that 7.4% of children aged 2-11 and 8.2% of those aged 12-16 report continued symptoms.

all along the message from those trying for covid 0 has been to keep it there as long as possible because the infrastructure available couldn't cope, which is exactly what is now happening in nsw and vic if you listen to the people on the front line and not the politicians
4 million extra Pfizer doses this month from the UK. Better late than never I suppose. Although there is plenty of AZ around, the demonisation of AZ was a real misstep also.

NSW announces 1431 cases and 12 deaths, with predictions the worst is yet to come in October and daily cases could reach 3-4000.

Qld, WA, SA, NT and Tasmania announce zero cases.

Who gets criticised? Qld and WA for saying their first priority is to keep people safe.

Anyone see the problem right there?

The booming Covid-free export economies of WA and Qld are funding the nation, while NSW and Victoria sink deeper into recession.

Maybe the best thing for the national economy would be if WA and Qld kept their borders closed indefinitely until the whole nation reaches at least 90% vaxed.

And would that 70% be of eligible or total? Gets blurred by the pollie's narratives at will.

Hundreds more contact tracers were conscripted in from their normal duties within other govt departments. Masks and scanning into places was made mandatory. This on top of our normal Level 4. Probably a few other increased measures I have forgotten about. Our levels were adjusted for the delta. There is talk of us not going back to level 1 any time soon. May well be that Level 2 is our new Level 1.

It'll buy us a few more months to get our vaccination rates in order if we can beat it down.

In last weeks national cabinate WA and QLD did NOT agree with the 70% at all and what the premiers signed up to in the first place is a completely different situation to what is on the ground at the moment.
At least they had the courage to NOT agree because of the changes in the situation and not simply follow along like a mob of sheep and indeed are now saying NO bloody way.

I have No idea why you keep "Banging on" about the original plan when even blind freddy can see that EVERYTHING has changed and it needs a differant approach.
