Yes it is pot luck isn't it. With the Pfizer vaccines, my son and I had basically no reactions, but my wife (and her sister also) were absolutely smashed by the second dose. Heaven help us if they'd got the virus proper, they'd have been king hit we think....

That's a bit of a facetious argument as you can clearly see from world wide data that doing both these things drastically reduces your chances of both catching/spreading it or being seriously ill from it - we can't stay locked down forever because a small percentage of vaccinated people can still get sick or die. Not an argument but unfortunately a fact, unless you managed to find a warranty card attached to one of your masks. If you don't believe me, no respected medico's, CHO's, Health Ministers, etc are saying that if you are doubled vaxed and wearing a mask there is no need to get tested if you have any covid symptoms. The vax is not a "silver bullet" and even the makers are not guaranteeing that we will not need a booster shot, especially if a resistant variant arises.

I'm worried that when ppl get double vaxed the old "she'll be right" or even worse the old "I'm alright, Jack" attitude will start to pervade.

A lot ppl believe a lot of things are guaranteed, I know as I've spent most of my life working for service providers/utilities, and have had to burst ppl's bubble, as in electricity supply is not g'teed 24/7, equipment no matter how expensive is not g'teed to run 24/7, actually just the opposite, as it is electrical/mechanical/electronic/computerised it is more likely to be g'teed to breakdown!

Ppl also believe the gov't is g'teed to help, as in they've paid taxes all their life so if they lose their job they think they can get the dole, not so most will have to dispose of their cash reserves/assets before they get a cent, same with a pension most people aren't going to get a full pension but a part pension 2/3's of ppl IIRC.

I believe an ex-foreign minister got a bit peeved with some ppl and said something like, some imbeciles visit war zones, natural disaster areas then expect the gov't to rescue them when things go wrong.

Sorry, not sugar coating that one - it's not aimed at anyone here and I know your right as there are people at work who think like this, but it just doesn't make any sense - well about as much as anti vaxxers or flat earthers...

Apparently, it is running amok in the homeless in Auckland and in the gang community and the gang fraternity is responsible for spreading it out from Auckland with their activity's. Waikato, south of Auckland is now experiencing lock down restrictions with many of the infected gang members.

The anti vax brigade were in Traralgon for the last few days with the outbreak there - they had a bus with all sorts of things written all over it as the centerpiece of the protest - it got trashed the night before last after they all left for the evening apparently - the Traralgon riff raff seem to want vaccination, not the other way around as they might have thought.

Yes, it is alleged that dealers in illicit substances introduced covid to western NSW and Canberra by some sections of the press. Good to see the vaccination rates increasing in NZ though.

Yes been in lockdown for 8 weeks now with no real change in infection rates (if anything going up) - it would seem that we are constantly being infected from blowins from NSW - may or may not be dealers in illicit substances noting that for the leafy stuff we can legally grown our own.

A major issue for us is the hospital system here - as well as our local patients, NSW sends their Covids from SE NSW to our hospitals with the current admissions being a third of COVID patients in our hospitals are from NSW. We still have our portable hospital that we bought last year which may have to be brought online if regional NSW Covid rates continue to be high.
