That's not the case this time: Covid is everywhere, almost endemic, and they stand a very good chance of being infected - with potentially serious consequences for their health.

In my experience as a GP with 40 years under my belt, human patients nowadays don’t tell me what’s wrong…..they tell me what they want.
Not that they might actually get it.

And then when it's fixed, it'd no longer be required.
The essential worker/essential business thing is a bit fraught. We have a local car parts supplier that was doing business over the last few weeks as an essential business by having a counter at the front door and not letting people in the shop. As of Monday they have decided they are normal retail and are asking people for their vaccination certificates before letting them in. Not a biggie but it does show some inconsistency in the way that the rules are being applied.

Here in vic we have "The Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne will introduce mandatory rapid COVID-19 testing for visitors after a virus scare at the hospital's neo-natal ICU.Key points:

    • Victoria has recorded 1,571 new local cases and 13 deaths
    • A parent visited the RCH neo-natal ICU and later tested positive to COVID-19
    • The hospital says rapid antigen testing will begin for visitors this week

It comes as Victoria records 1,571 new cases and 13 deaths." ABC website and others if you want or haven't already seen it

I have added 10 minute tests for Doctors and staff in a new process allowing them to work if getting a KNOWN exposure bite. I get to pay for it of course

What is very clear to me with $$$$$$$ racking up paying for this is the cost is in the very near future those who have refused vaccines will be paying the $25 test cost before they expose me to more $$$$$$$$ in costs and issues. The test costs that $25 each. The cost of giving and supervising the 10 minute test is much closer to $50-$100 per test. Staff, Insurance even the boof head manger cost more than the test. I would go broke quickly if I pay!

Very disappointed to hear some of the nurse, staff at the Melb Royal Children are not vaccinated. I am very very surprised that visitors to the hospitals are allowed in if they are not vaccinated at all. We all get to pay for that stupidity. People can have a choice to not get a vaccine. I will very soon refuse to pay for that choice for them

take that NSW- your puny efforts smashed!

Vic "all-time high of 2,297 new COVID-19 cases and 11 deaths." It took grand final football hook ups and Union bashing by unionists(?) and a few protestors and the NSW highs show yet again here in Vic we do it the best???

Crazy day vax the dregs to 90%ish+ soon. The march down hill back to normalish is on its way despite so peoples whoops

Cool theory tossed at me this morning none of 3 people with very high exposure to a Covid positive all has Astra Zucchini not pfizzer got Covid. The observation only was interesting

I have been watching the Vic figures and contemplating the hysteresis between vaxed numbers and reduction of case numbers. NSW seemed to drop quite dramatically around the time the 70% double dose was hit and since then has plateaued. It must be Victoria's turn to feel the benefit of those double doses soon surely......

And yet after nearly 10 weeks in lockdown the ACT is coming out of it tonight with infection rates at an almost record high, vaccination rates at an all time high and another death yesterday and a couple from NSW in Canberrra hospital a few days ago.

The ACT started with a high vaccination rate and yet infections have continued to rise and rise - despite one of the toughest lockdowns in the country - FFS even Bunnings have been closed to everyday shoppers for a couple of months.

I agree that vaccination is the way to go but here in the ACT it is not having any impact on the rate of infections, the hospitalisation rate or the death rate yet we were told that while infection rates might go up the others will fall - not happening here - yet we are opening up tonight.

With Delta I would say there is a floor below which the number can never fall. 50 is a tiny number and realistically I would say "COVID normal" will be somewhere north of that going forward just as it will be for NSW and everywhere else in the future albeit a much higher floor. Testing rates in NSW are still outstanding so the falling numbers there are not a function of falling testing rates. I doubt we will get any lower than they are. The hope is that the vaccine does the job it is supposed to and keeps the severity of disease in check, the worry is for those that are not vaccinated(for those who can't be vs choose not to be).
    Cheers,

    Sean
