Good call. But somehow I get the feeling that we in Australia have this " she'll be right , mate" attitude, which in this case may be like the band on Titanic playing as the ship goes down. I was talking to a young man today at the local ARB store, a manager, intelligent, smart, who said " I'm not getting vaccinated because I don't like the government telling me what to do. " I had no answer to that. What do you say.? Went to the Boondall walk in vax centre today. We can get our boosters after 5.5 months. Call me paranoid, but our cyclone kit is being updated, must get more toilet paper.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I'll bet if his employer required him to wear a hard hat, steel capped boots, high viz and have a normal flu jab and a white card he wouldn't have an issue.

Omicron - newly named variant. I guess Nu sounded too much like new.

It is now on the WHO Variants of Concern listing... Classification of Omicron (B.1.1.529): SARS-CoV-2 Variant of Concern and the list Tracking SARS-CoV-2 variants

Covid self test are the 'New' dunny paper

    Have a great weekend all
PS- flu like symptoms for one 3rd dose yesterday. I'lll keep a tag on them for a week or two. I get one late December after my guinea pig Novavax drug trial is over

Edit- news read found a I am STUCK which is funny sad and predictable

"Someday, I may appreciate the irony in this situation. For now, I’m in my fourth hour trapped on the tarmac at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport, where officials will not allow so much as a catering truck to bring us water. And an appreciation for irony is elusive.
My flight took off nearly 16 hours ago from Johannesburg, where people were abuzz with the news of the discovery of a coronavirus variant that is spreading in South Africa.
This variant has many mutations, in particular on the spike protein that helps it enter human cells, and is spreading relatively quickly around Johannesburg.

    "

A Journalist stuck plus. I suspect they are going to be turning flights back to South Africa...?

So, ok, a question for the medicals or deep readers out there. I am reading in a few articles this new omicron variant is likely to have evolved to the number of mutations it has during the chronic infection of an immunocompromised person.

Just how does that work? My intuition tells me if a person is
immunocompromised then their immune system is less likely to be able to defend. Therefore, in my logic, there is no need for a virus to mutate to infect and replicate, it is already playing "gotcha"! If an immune system is strong and defends against a virus, then I see the logic in a virus trying to mutate to beat the immune system. It is counterintuitive. Why then does the virus seemingly mutate so wildly in an immunocompromised person?

If we end up back into lockdowns because of a new variant in the community then I suspect this will push a lot of people to breaking point. It will give fuel to the anti-Vaxxers, and more people will stop listening to any health orders.

I hope we can keep it out, but opening up international borders and achieving Covid zero do not go together. So we better be prepared for when the new variant arrives.

This will be a real test of both the federal and state governments - especially for those heading toward elections.

Viral replication is never perfect all the time. A mutation arises due to imperfect replication. The more replication going on the higher the chance of beneficial mutation, beneficial from the point of view of survival.

Immunocompromised -> higher viral loads -> higher rates of replication -> more mutations -> higher chance of a beneficial mutation arising because there are just more throws of the dice.

    My guess.

FYI our 3rd vax is coming up late Dec.

The latest (Botswana, SA) variant / strain has even been found in 3 other countries (?) - and it will be interesting to see how badly it affects the 'cleanest' Indian State, Uttar Pradesh. They are more than merely aware of it....

New COVID-19 variant ‘Botswana’ reported in UP - OrissaPOST

For the last paragraph, UP has a population around 241 million, Ten times the whole of Australia. Kind of puts things in perspective.

Incidentaly, ScoMo has - so we're told - bought enough jabs for EVERYONE, to have two 'boosters' for the next SEVEN years. - Be a real bummer if Omicron / Botswana required a ......'Novel', re-designed "Vaccine".

Makes it kind of ,,, Moronic,,, to have paid out on such a huge order. One wonders at the IQ and foresight of his $CIENCE 'Advisors'.
