Last week I travelled to Sydney by train for the first time in a few years. I checked before I set off and read that masks are mandatory on NSW public transport. In the carriage I was in, about 10% of people did not wear a mask.

At the Opera House (for a performance by Bangarra Dance Theatre) I saw numerous signs indicating that masks were "strongly recommended".
My rough estimate is that 25% of the audience was maskless.

I heard a woman sitting near me say to her companion, " If they don't like wearing a mask, they are really going to hate wearing a respirator."

In the unlikely event that this is a genuine question rather than an attempt to discredit PCR tests, I suggest you read the following article which includes an explanation by Julian Druce, who is the head of the virus identification laboratory at the Doherty Institute.

Have you sunk to using the same technique employed by certain "news" outlets in the USA?

They defend their misinformation campaign by claiming they are "just asking questions", in spite of the fact that it is obvious what they are up to.

There is overwhelming evidence of the benefits of the vaccine including boosters. Asking your question suggests you are wilfully ignoring that evidence and are continuing your campaign of misinformation.

Well with a bit more than 24hrs left of my home gaol sentence, this has been the loooooongest week everrrrrrr!!

Still have a bit of a dry cough and throat a little sore in the mornings but headaches have gone and so have the chills. Didn't experience any breathlessness, and got stuck in to some housework today without issue. Will be wearing a mask for a bit on release as I was reading an article this morning that mentioned reinfection with the current crop is more likely in the 28 days post recovery, not sure how valid this is, anyone heard anything?

Not sure if I should do another RAT tomorrow or Wednesday.

Mind you if they catch it here they won't be going home on schedule . The people we had out last week are starting to trickle back to work, all had symptoms no worse than the non-covid flu that is circulating in Canberra at the present.

In context, in the week ending 6 July the UK had 800,000 new known Covid infections. In the same week Australia had 43,590 new known infections. That works out at about 7 times higher per capita.

    .

Apparently the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 variants have an increased ability to reinfect people.

The problem is you don't get told what variant you have, all you get is "Positive". I know all that sequencing and stuff takes time but even if told at a later date it is always good to have more information. Geez, I could have had Delta or the original Omicron, who knows????? I'm guessing they are all still circulating to some degree, just that the newer ones become more dominant.

If you have symptoms mask up and drive through PCR test if possible.

If test positive by RAT or PCR and are in a high risk group call your Doctor ASAP and ask for Phone Urgent consultation re anti vials. My counts is 10 plus in the last week and rising rapidly.

But have you tried to get a PCR test now? You can’t without a referral from your Doctor (can’t get an appointment for more than 2 weeks at my Clinic) or if you’re over 55 so the great unwashed like me have to rely on RAT tests as even a positive RAT won’t get you a PCR test now - just had 2 of our workers go through this.

You get turned away at the testing centres now - they will give you a fre RAT but that’s all. Several callers to the ABC this arvo confirmed this and the Vic Government website says ‘when eligible’ and other similar stuff. Not sure when it happened but you can’t be asked for proof by PCR when you’re ineligible to get one. That’s excluding a huge chunk of the population that would love to be able to prove they don’t have it to your standards but can’t - where does that leave them?

I find this all quite strange to be honest - only reason I can think of is it was costing too much?

Maybe it's a state by state thing, plenty of people at work are getting PCR tests in the ACT.
