Getting our ceramics dug up and replaced in a few weeks. similar issue with ours- Root ingress and some minor cracking. Even with a lot of the work done by me, still an $8K job. I dislike the bill, but I dislike the job even more.

We did have success with a vapor-root herbicide foam they injected into the pipes- kept the roots at bay for a guaranteed 12mths.
Cracked and dropped pipes like yours are the killer, as the sewerage collects there, becomes like a rally gross paper mache, and it snowballs from there.

if l was well enough l'd would have hired a trencher and trenched and laid new plastic myself.

Always check the sharpness of the teeth on a trencher if you're hiring one or you might be hiring it for double the time.

I hired on earlier in the year to replace the old water supply line, had a mate operate it, but if I was to do it again I would have hire an excavator. The hire place I've used isn't open on Sundays so a weekend hire means pick up Sat early and return Monday morning. . I've hire a stump grinder and did 7 stumps or a fraction of the cost of getting a tree mob to it, as they charged something like 100+ a stump.

you can do lot of work in a week end for $350 and plastic storm water pipe isnt expensive.

We got a similar quote years ago.

Grabbed a teaspoon digger, dropped into the local Reese plumbing and grabbed the PVC needed and did it in a day.

Cost was sub $1k - and a heap of fun!
