You possibly can but shouldn't. Insurance voiding effort???
The cost of taking the item to add a plug to an electrical repair place would not be the same as getting a helpful sparky to visit your house!

Thanks for all those suggestions, however as the post indicates just after something that plugs into a standard 3 pin plug and will come on when the power goes off - like the Click product but more reliable.
Actually Tote my neighbour has one of those lights and I know it works well. Maybe steal his as I have not seen them for sale for a long time = though I did see that Repco has something similar.
Background to the post - my 93 yo mum is getting a bit frail and easily confused - the power went off late at night and she got lost in the house in the dark and panicked and pushed her emergency pendant. She has a power point high up in the kitchen that if it had an emergency light it would light up most of the house.
The Click Night Light is exactly what is required but its reliable is so poor that it is not useable - so looking for a similar alternative.
How about something like this...
5 X PACK - Emergency Spitfire Light LED for only $28 each | eBay
Plenty of battery back-up emergency lighting packages available through any of the fire safety suppliers, such as Flamestop, Ektor and others. These can be either hard wired into your house wiring, or simply plug into a single phase outlet. They will come on only when the power fails. This one below is from Flood Light

I have something similar in the kitchen, might even be the Click product. I find there are a lot of whingers doing reviews, so it might not be as bad as you think. Also this is the problem with giving up smoking, you live a long life, but end up getting confused in the dark, and to top it all of you don't have your cigarette lighter with you when you really need it!

mines been going well for about 5 years now.

PEEPO - LED Torch Power Failure Night Light Rechargeable - Power Up Australia
I have not as yet checked out the suggestions from the industrial safety stores but in the in the interim bought the Click item - is only $15.
Works OK but is also a night light so lights up the house - so with bedroom doors open lights the bedrooms a bit. Is Ok and not intrusive, the bedroom door needs to be open so the dog that sleeps under the bed can get in an at etc.
Dave - I will check those suggestions as well - thanks.
