Australian Equivalents of USA Automotive Tapes

    Hello All,

I have been watching Wray Schelin's Proshaper Workshop's Flexible Shape Patterns Accessed January 10th 2022 from, Metal Fabrication: How to make a Flexible Shape Pattern and Gauges - YouTube The flexible shape patterns consists of layers of three different types of tape. While Wray sells tape kits the cost of freight to buy products would be prohibitive. The kicker is that most likely there are equivalents of the USA sourced tapes available right here in Australia - if you knew what you were looking for. Currently, I do not. Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The big advantage of Wray Schelin's system is that a finished pattern just has to be turned over to provide a mirror image of the side it was developed on. Really useful when rust has totally eaten out a critical part of the panel you want to repair. This is exactly the situation I am in with my 1210 International van.

The first layer of tape is a 'Transfer Tape' , the second layer is fibreglass filament reinforced packing tape and the third one is a 1/8th of an inch blue automotive tape. I have found examples online for each type of tape. However, from what Mr Schelin describes the tapes he sells are based off his positive experiences, not cost but their effectiveness. For example, some tapes are too sticky and the whole pattern gets stuck onto the panel. The patterns are then ruined in the process of trying to remove them. The webpage where the tapes are for sale is Tape Archives - Pro Shaper Sheet Metal LLC Only the blue thin tape is clearly labelled on the webpage. Supposedly, Tapes are not just tapes. It is a bit like "oils ain't oils, Sol".

    Kind regards
    Lionel

The blue tape and low stick tape will be available from panel beating suppliers.
