Saw him live at the 2011 AFL GF. Sadly, that was arguably his worst live performance ever. I didn't hold it against him.
RIP.

Jim Steinman and now Meatloaf.
Actually, the Guardian's obituary for Jim Steinman was one of the best things I've ever read.

Sad news indeedR.I.P Meatloaf
Apart from the Jim Steinman, Meatloaf, Ellen Foley ''Bat Out Of Hell'' Album , here is a track most won't have heard but show's off his ability to sing. Veteran harmonica player Larry Adler was joined on this innovative project (to celebrate his 80th birthday) by many of today's rock, pop and jazz stars to create a quite lovely interpretation of George Gershwin's most famous compositions. It entered the charts at number 2. A great album to own![]()
You're right Jerry, I'd never heard that rendition before. I wouldn't have been able to identify the artist if it was a quiz. His versatility is surprisingly amazing.

Oddly enough if I close my eyes I can actually picture "Eddie" singing it, which is a bit weird if I'm honest.
I find Meatloaf a bit like John Belushi. I don't think either were particularly accomplished vocalists, but what they lacked in skill they more than made up in enthusiasm and effort and I love listening to them both (preferably with the volume up past what I'd now call "comfortable").
Great find!
My time with Meatloaf as a 16/17 year old on HMAS Vampire (The Bat) was rocking plus in the wind and sea spray frequently in 1985/6.
Cannot find my 85/86 version but this gives some idea why I still get the groove on when I hear Bat out of Hell.
RIP sir
