No a sadder note for me & my family, our Grand Parents house on the banks of the Bremer River Ipswich just below the new bridge has gone under again Attachment 177387 The house was built on the sand stone foundation ( carved by convicts ) of the first beer brewery in Queensland by my grand mother's father after the brewery after it burned down. Her father also built two other houses on the site for the family & on his death my grand parents inherited it , one next door on same sand stone foundations & a high set behind them , these were built for the other two sisters. The house next door was demolished after the 74 floods & the high set is still standing . Up until 74 the water had only come up to just under the floor boards of this house , in 74 the water i believe was 1.8m's over the roof . The house was then rented as two flats until sold some time between 74 & 2011 . At this time my wife & I thought about buying the house after the Qld Gov said that Wivenhoe was built to prevent the flooding , we had just built a new house at the time so decided not to buy it (thank God) In 2011 the house was flooded again . This flood I am told the was fully under yet again.Attachment 177386 This next photo is taken from a different position on the bridge & you can just see the top of the green roof , the guy who took the photo said the water was up to the gutters & was a couple of days before the river peaked Attachment 177393 So sad to see this , so many child hood memories in this house , sleep overs with my cousin , playing in the dark cellar ( no lights ) making up ghost stories to scare our younger cousins when they came to visit us . During the depression years my Grand Parents allowed homeless men looking for work to sleep in the cellar . This house has a lot of history , the cast railings , windows , doors & other fittings of the house came from the Castle on Blackstone Hill. :BigCry: The Castle Attachment 177400 I do hope my Grand Parents house can be saved again for out & Ipswich's history.
