Has happened many times for me over the years & no doubt for many others.

As time goes by I seem to get less & less from the forum.
I mainly frequent the Pinnacles, Series section and Markets plus occasionally other areas like General Chat and I post up any Series adverts in my locality found on Gumtree.

I'm not on Facebook but I think I'll have to sign up at some point because articles in the For Sale or Wanted on AULRO get very limited success. I get my son to post on one of the Facebook groups and immediate success. On the downside there are a high percentage of time wasters & 'Merchant Bankers'.

I like the idea that subjects are organised on AULRO so you can go back and find threads easily. I was able to get on the Facebook Series Group (it's now private) and you need to be on there constantly reading or threads get quickly lost into the background. Obviously done so you stay glued to your phone/laptop to get all the adverts being thrown at you.....

I gain most on here from a handful of people who have a wealth of knowledge on the early Land Rovers.
If AULRO was just Land Rover discussions with no current affairs, people's problems etc. etc. it would be fine by me. Someone suggested boring, maybe, but I look mostly at the 'boring' bits now.

A while back I was regularly posting on one of my build threads and I took a step back to look at myself.
Why am I doing this ? Is it to show off, the modern 'look at me...look at me' culture, or was it to help others ?
There was positive feedback and people contacted me by PM about aspects of the builds so I guess it was helping others. I still add occasionally to the build threads.

Another problem is if you're on here too long you find that questions are repeated on a regular basis. Some people ask very odd questions, others what seems like too many questions most don't Google first and this starts to get annoying.....yes, I guess I'm getting old & grumpy. Sorry, grumpier.

Like you John I've made a few friends via AULRO but personally I'm not interested in posting about my problems, politics or any other subject outside of Land Rovers because it will typically end up getting messy.

Eventually I'll join Facebook, at that point I'll have to assess whether I still get much value from AULRO.

Facebook is OK, if you don't live on it. I have six friends and we're on it mainly to use 'Messenger'.

In my 'umble opinion Colin you & JW are still the "Go To Guys" for any series knowledge. I have had no need to contact you of latter years as my '66 SWB was completed way back, but your expertise would have been of great assistance from the 1st day I started removing stuff. Since then one tends to build one's own knowledge base for one's own vehicle by reading relevant posts & hands on stuff.

So we have all convinced Tins to stay,so that’s great.

Ah but my old son, your edification has now been widened & you now know that Maggie came from Grantham & her dad was a Grocer there & Uup norf is sorta Pork Pie country-ish. Grantham is also known for an Apple that fell on some olde dude's head, Isaac somebody ,thingy. Or maybe he just saw it & pondered why it dropped in a straight line, not left, not right just down.

Some people would pay good money for that knowledge.
    So not wasted at all.

I used to spend hours on here daily, reading (and learning a lot).

Now I find myself spending more time scrolling through the crap trying to find the LR content.

If people stuck to the LR aspects, I feel that there wouldn’t be much need for censorship..

That’s my 2 cents worth - anyone remember those? 🤣
That's interesting, Tom. I recall many posts about a certain shed you built. I also remember spending an evening with you in Boronia talking about such things over quite a number of red wines. This place needs that.

    Will I???

I see a number of posts saying 'if you are going, just go'. Fair enough, but I'm still paid up, and this has become one of my bigger threads.

However, the strongest theme I see here is irreverence, which is the heart and soul of the AULRO I loved, so letting go becomes difficult. It seems that there are still people here. Some of them are moderators.

I STILL believe events in the world should be free of censorship, and I am still going to take a hiatus. My payment is up to date.

    No reason I can't watch.
