The bigger picture is the the Gallello satellite system is the final part of. The satellite system has been built with the technology to track every vehicle in the EU. Will be able to monitor location and speed. There are still some technical issues with the tracking before it becomes active

Legislation is already in place for the EU to then tax all movement and issue fines. No doubt when it is working will be looking for other countries to make use of the system - for a percentage of the take no doubt
They may as well just add a printer into the dashboard of the car and then it can print out a fine whenever the law for speed, changing lanes without signalling, failing give way, etc is contravened.

They want to know how much you have in savings and where, they want to know who gives you money and who you give money to, again so they can get their cut. They want to know how much you have under your mattress. Hence why there has been a...... well not a push, but gentle nudges towards a cashless economy.

On the under the mattress economy, I read somewhere recently that of all the $100 and $50 notes that have been minted and those official destroyed, there are significantly less in circulation than there should be. So who has a lumpy mattress???
They already know how much I earn and spend so no skin off my back. Seems to be the only ones bothered by these sort of things are those doing the wrong thing. EU To Make Speed Limiters And Data Recorders Mandatory By 2024EU To Make Speed Limiters And Data Recorders Mandatory By 2024

Oh money is involved, it's just not "tax".

It's likely more going to be used like the chinese social credit system and when the inevitable next lockdown comes (for the poor climate no less undoubtedly) they can simply switch of cars remotely. No driving for you chum! Also, they want to be able to control WHEN and WHERE you spend your money so cash is on the way out. With negative rent and all sorts of other "motivators" they can control the economy even "better". Same reason everything is becoming a lease type plan or monthly subscription fee. For your convenience and even a bit more convenient for them. (since you no longer own anything so they have more control an power over you)

Of course, by no means I am suggesting there are interest groups steering the governments of the world

Also, I find the argument that only wrongdoers are worried by this a bit shallow. Yes, I usually drive a bit faster than the government believes I should but that does not mean I dislike this because of that, but I hate my freedoms being chipped away at. Within my lifetime I may yet see the days that everything that is not forbidden, is automatically mandatory. There is nothing in between.

    Cheers,
    -P
