Can you get the redundant meter removed/disconnected?
Hi All,
The previous owner of my 10 acres also owned the 10 next door (separate titles) with her cottage on it.
Underground supply from pole came under my property to 2 meters in my shed.
One meter is for the shed, the other was for the cottage next door. The line to next door has been disconnected (I have the 57 metres of double big mofo copper cable) and that property gets its power from another pole now.
I'm paying two separate supply charges to the two (now smart) meters in my shed on one single property.
Have been told it should only be one charge for supply to a property.
Can remember a post about this in the past but can't find it.
Anyone know about this?
Thanks, DL

You'll need to contact your electricity supplier to ask for the redundant meter removal otherwise you will continue to pay for a connection fee.
If the second meter was for off-peak power on your property, the second connection fee may not apply.
The ideal time would have been when the smart meters were installed (if that was after you bought the place). The supplier may tell you to get a Level 2 electrician to remove the meter and reconfigure your switchboard. The supplier may not remove the meter themselves.

I know all that thanks Ron.
What i want to know is if the supply charge is to each meter or to a property.
The physical disconnect is on the pole, outside my boundary.
AFAIAC I own the pair of big mofo copper cables that go from the pole to these meters, i.e. one supply onto my property.
cheers, DL
Ask your retailer.
Dunno how it is over there but here, my original next door neighbour added a granny flat extension for the wife's mother so there were two meters and two accounts, one for the neighbour, one for the mother.
When the current owners bought it, the granny flat extension was modified to make it a single bigger house, still with the two meters. They were still charged for both with two separate accounts until they had the second meter removed to get back to a single account.
