The defender value in the future"????.

    Hi all.

Do you think the current model defender (or shape) values will fall or rise if they decide to cease productionof this shape in a few years??.

I'd like to think they'd go up (could make a killing!), but let's face it, if they design a windproof, dustproof and waterproof one, ours will all be so much scrap metal as far as values go. Most Series vehicles are not worth very much in real terms, and Defenders/110/90/County's will never be as collectable as a Series vehicle. Have you seen the concept - LRX 2/3 I think it's called? Shows they can at least design something modern that carries over a lot of the Landie look.

    Values will increase.

See what happened to Countys during the 80's & 90's, almost new car price (sometimes more) for a decade to follow, until the Defenders entered the 2nd hand market.

See also the value to Series Land Rovers in the USA, where imports have been impeded for several years at a time.

Plus if the economy crashes, what other vehicle is going to out last the Defender, or get through the deteriorating third world roads.

If the new one has is anything like the D3 with all the electric gizmos (not a bad thing in my opinion) then i reckon they will at least remain strong. People touring the country will snap up the older models people trade in so they can have a relatively gizmo free vehicle to venture into the middle of nowhere. Matt

Interesting thread. I'm going to say that they will continue to depreciate as per normal (the fender does have very good retained values as it is).

I think if they introduce a new one the price will probably go up which always helps the re-sale of the older ones. The current fender is quite cheap, so I really can't see them dropping in price.

A wildcard is the price of fuel. The current fender is probably the most ecconomical full size 4wd on the market, so that has got to help its re-sale. However ... it is possible that in 5 years fuel is so expensive that no one can afford to use 4wd for recreational purposes, then our cars will be worthless Even pessimistic me thinks this wont come to pass for about 10 years so I reckon in 5 years we'll be lookin pretty

    cease production.
My mate in the Uk went last week to see the new Defender from Land Rover which is due out next year. He is the second largest buyer of Land Rovers in the world behind the army. Largest private company. So he shouts and land Rover jump. Camel Landy ( Mark) will know him (or know of him) Mike Street of SHB. Went out with his daughter for a while. Saw them and was talking to him about it when i was in the Uk about 2 weeks ago.
So it is going feel sorry for Land Rover because what ever they do they will get alot of crap. The defedner is still running on the seris one crash test . And as time goes on it is getting that it can't be sold in more and more contrys. So they have to do something. But with the new rules they will have to really change it some. And they will get alot of back lash from that

as for the old defedners it will depend on what they do to the new one. If is not so farmish then the old ones will become more wanted and the price will go up. But if they are better then they will stay the same. But no where near a normal car where if a new model comes out the old ones takes a massive hit
