Eldest is in University just started first term. In this part of the world the school terms are all over the place starting in the third quarter of the year rather than January as it is done in more developed places. The University is only 2 hours away so not really that far. Know locals who consider it to be a 2 day trip requiring an overnight stay due to distance.
Back to story is down visiting for weekend and drive her back to University in the evening. Train strike so have to drive. Is looking for some work to supplement savings and requires passport for ID. Collecting this was a main reason for the visit. Don’t tell mum who thinks was due to missing her
Call the next day had left passport here at home and needs it. Back in car and become a courier for passport as mail strike means cannot get it in time. So 8 hours on the car for one passport

We had that much drama when the kids were living at home I could write a book about it.
It seemed to start when they got to about 14yrs old and continued until they were about 20 yrs old for one of them,the other it continued until he was 25.[bigsad]
Most was to do with Girls,idiot “mates”,Cars,and on it went.
Luckily no drugs or alcohol problems.
Their antics certainly emptied our pockets as well,one way or another.
SWMBO at one time went for a “holiday” to Bali to get away from it all,with her sister,I didn’t think she was ever going to come back.
Anyway I am glad that part of our life is long gone,and things got back to normal,and have been for about the last 10yrs.Hopefully it continues.

According to Scarry we have bit to go through yet.
#1 son is with me & working for me but does go camping with his mates on week-ends I rather ignore what goes out bush.
#2 son is the one that put his arm through the window, lesson learnt? Probably not.
#3 son, the car roller, needs murdering.
#4 son, Autistic, loving, huge boy. Anti-social so we are hoping.
The daughter, 13yo so probably yet to start. Hates boys, including her brothers, we are hoping it stays that way.
Our natural daughter went to boarding school then left home at 18. So despite writing off 2 cars, some idiot boyfriends & marrying a dick she wasn't home so only money & minimal grief.
She has given us 3 Grandchildren which is some compensation & we sincerely hope they give her HELL!:firedevil:

Whinge away Paul but did you give your olds grief? My kids had their moments but in the main were pretty good. Street angels, home devils. The oldest, a daughter, questioned and argued about everything but almost without exception accepted parental advice.* She now has a daughter that she so deserves. :vampire::Rolling:
*when she was learning to drive, she was having one professional lesson a week, from Arron the Indian. She was also getting lessons from Mum and me, at every opportunity.
I taught her to change down gears, approaching intersections etc., but she was doubtful and struggling with coordination and watching the traffic, simultaneously and said "Arron hasn't taught me that."
I dismissed the comment wit, he probably hasn't got that far yet.
When she had her next paid for lesson, she questioned Arron, who told her that was only applicable to truck drivers. A discussion with Mum and me ensued, culminating in Megan doing her own research.
She confided in Mum, Dad was right, but don't tell him I said that.
So typical and being rerun with my granddaughter. Karma is so rewarding. [biggrin]

When I learnt to drive my father taught me to down change like you say. Driving instructor saw me doing this and said your parents show you that? His advise was not to as modern gear boxes are not as strong as they once were. Brakes on the other hand hand improved massively. This was about 40 years ago and so may now be out of date
