How much is V8 rego in Canberra?

    Hi guys,

As the title says how much is V8 rego in Canberra?

I'm about to call a guy about a Disco there that has 6 months rego left but as I'm a Qlder I want to know how much it is worth so I can tell him he could cancel it and take the cost off the price if I was to buy it.

    Thanks.

I wonder if it would be wise to tell him to cancel the rego? You would have to accept the vehicle unregistered and then go through the registration process in Queensland.

At a guess you are only talking $250-$300 that would be left on the ACT rego. Many people think that just dividing the yearly rego rate by what is left over if cancelled is what you would get. It' s not this easy as 3rd party insurance etc eats up some costs.

    Have a look at http://www.rego.act.gov.au/registrat...rying_vehicles

In Queensland the rego costs are based on the number of cylinders. Looks like in the ACT they work out the cost by the vehicle weight.

    Hope this helps,

Return for 6 months is bugger all. ACT does it by vehicle weight and I think cylinders. I could be wrong. Been a few years since I had ACT rego.

Rego in the ACT comprises rego, third party (NRMA), road rescue and road safety contribution. - it is all one process as green slips are not used.

The rego component is $346 for my Freelander and was not much more for my V8 Disco - now about $370 (was only $320 for 2005 for the Disco).

If you cancel the rego - how are you going to get the car to Qld - my suggestion is take the car as is and get it changed to Qld rego within the required few weeks and claim back from the ACT any outstanding rego and third party (the one process) - note there is a decent admin fee. Note - the third party component is $399 - the other componnets come to $18.

If you ring 13 22 81, the ACT rego people, they should be able to give you the answers.

Thanks for the replies guys. I know that you would never get 50% back but you will get something.
As for him cancelling the rego I would have asked him to cancel the rego on Monday after I'd got home on Sunday or something like that.
Maybe it would be a better idea to have the rego transferred to me and then change it to Qld rego later? Not sure how I would go about that though.
I'll make a few calls on Monday to Qld transport and Garry's number too for their opinions.
