Not long after I arrived in Dubai I walked onto a site to be greeted with an office door marked "incharge". The occupant had "incharge" written on his helmet. He was the supervisor, but people wandering into site and asking "where is the supervisor?" were often met with a blank stare. This resulted in the inevitable "who is in charge here?". When you have > 100 nationalities of which the majority speak English as some second or third language things evolve differently.
The worst part was you had to learn what it all meant and then had to use it yourself. If I ever hear a person finish a conversation with "please do the needful ASAP" again, my head might explode.
