Not long after I arrived in Dubai I walked onto a site to be greeted with an office door marked "incharge". The occupant had "incharge" written on his helmet. He was the supervisor, but people wandering into site and asking "where is the supervisor?" were often met with a blank stare. This resulted in the inevitable "who is in charge here?". When you have > 100 nationalities of which the majority speak English as some second or third language things evolve differently.

The worst part was you had to learn what it all meant and then had to use it yourself. If I ever hear a person finish a conversation with "please do the needful ASAP" again, my head might explode.

A-S-A-P is another recent conversational "Bugsme".

To give 110% could put you in a Combustible Box.

If using percentages, then 100 is the max, can't be 110%, does not exist.
What about volumetric efficiency in a supercharged engine?

Shirley that would follow exactly the same 100% is still 100% regardless of what other values one places on it.

SO, if I make something for $x and sell it for $x+60% of x and then find a way to make the same thing at half the cost, but sell it for the original, 60% mark-up, then that would be 120% profit, wouldn't it?

Yep 100% is definitely 100%- but it is not necessarily the highest possible %. 75 apples is 150% of 50 apples. a poor example. Forcing 1.5 litres of air into a cylinder of 1 litre capacity would make it 150% charged.

Not quite. It would be 50% overcharged.

Using percentage greater than 100% to represent a value is known as an ‘improper percentage’.

Only in your mind it would, but in practice maybe not. What about the deduction for materials & other overheads unless one is fiddlin' the books as it were. Not that you would of course.

Anyway, two more words that ease my bladder are "WOW"! & "AMAZING in every conversation on TV.

Just waiting for Baaa, as in sheep, to enter conversations.
