Apparently I'm embarrassing ... My eldest has been looking at universities .... the "woke" bull**** you see there is amazing. Through the accommodation there was labels hanging on the doors with there "preferred pronoun". They wouldn't give me a pen to scribble out all the nonsense ones leaving "He/She/Moron" there as a replacement for made up ones.

Surely all the tradies/apprentices aren't going on with the insane "woke" bull**** the "I'm special types" are demanding very vocally. As they are actually out there in the real world trying to make a living.

The biggest problem is these educated numpties then end up in industry. I've flatly refused to do a "training" course at work in about 5 years. I was so utterly disgusted at the bull**** HR sent through as a training courses ... I've just sent every "online training" course I've been sent straight into the email bin .... along with all the reminders.

Did you know if I have some patronising asshole treating me like a 3 year old telling me what being sexist ... or racist ... or whatever there latest fluffy topic is in the workplace. Being forced to watch a video of behavior then answering the dumbest questions I have ever seen will "train" me out of this behavior

The anti bullying ones are just lunacy.... utter lunacy. "Is this being bullied, or being asked to do something" ..... FFS. I know what bullying is ... And anyone thats known me for more than 5 minutes will know its not going work as I'm not the "submissive" type (or so I've heard) . I've even told the teachers at my kids school, if anyone bullies my kids, there dad says to punch them. If anyone is threatening you, ignore the woke bull****. A bully immediately leaves a person alone if they know they'll immediately get a fist in the face for there efforts The look on teachers faces is priceless when I tell them this. Strangely enough none of my kids have been bullied yet (two girls and one boy).

The last time my workplace sent out a job vacancy I was included on the 'CC list as they were hoping existing employees would forward it out as well. Well I forwarded it .... right ot my managers saying its the most ridiculous bull**** document I've ever seen. What is the job actually for? Its all fluffy bull****, WTF is emotional intelligence ?? I would NEVER go for a job at a company that would send out a job statement such as this.

They replied saying "we can't do anything about it, that is the new HR template for jobs"

    Just nuts.

    Great attitude.

On or off Topic but who gives a Flying .

The term "Tradie" seems to be splashed around ad nauseum these days It appears to be used in a bit of a derogatory sense mostly except when said "Tradie" rescues a kid from a hot parked car et al & then he is a hero.

In my former life I was a Tradesman or Trades person & was very proud to be so, as were many here after all the years of training & work experience with tools.

I groan when I hear "Tradie" being used & it seems like it has become the norm for a "Cowboy" Tradesman.

The person who initiated this word needs a solid kick in the ballcocks. Thrice.

To me, the term "Tradie" has always stood for someone who has worked hard to complete an apprenticeship in his/her chosen trade (as opposed to some "wannabe" who really hasn't got a clue) - and was something that I always encouraged my son to aspire to be. He succeeded, and his chosen trade of Diesel Mechanic now sees him as a maintenance manager at a gold mine in Victoria.

I have never heard the term "Tradie" used in a derogatory manner and if I did, I would assume that the person making the comment is probably a legend in his/her own lunchbox who more than likely has never achieved anything meaningful with his/her life - and would tell them so.

I am am engineer (metallurgist) and while I have a university degree, most of what I have learned in life on how things actually work and how to correctly build / repair / operate the plant I deal with - I have learned from "Tradies".
    Cheers .........

My bad for wasting my time reading this thread. When I first heard bad in this context I had to ask for the sentence to be explained.

As an indentured tradesman, I disapprove of the current use of the term.
When I did my time, tradie refered to the men (I wasn't aware of any indentured females) who had completed four (five for the older men) years of theoretical and practical learning in their chosen trade. See the link?
Later, the term seemed to be applied to anyone involved in the building industry, be they tradesmen or skilled workers such as concreters or plasterers.
Yet later, the term was used to describe any blue collar workers.
This bastardisation of the collective noun was brought about by the pig ignorance of journalists in particular and the media in general.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

It's a term that's been used for hundreds of years (not an Oz slang). I think it originated in the UK, from something along the lines of: "You can tell the quality of a carpenter by his chips".
