Fred reminds me a bit of Garry Rogers, only with higher highs and lower lows. Sad for the team when tobacco sponsorship was banned and then later when they lost Skaife.

There are also heaps of other Podcasts that are fantastic,the Dick Johnston one, as an example is a cracker.

I remember going to see the Group A's as a kid. Then I recall going to see the "Supercars" as a grown up. The "supercars" might be safer, but boring as **** compared to when you could buy a homologated version of the thing you went to see win on the weekend on Monday morning.

Brock, Johnson and the others weren't just legends because they were highly paid jockeys in cookie cutter badge engineered formulaic chassis with cheap plastic wrapping. They built and developed the things. Knew every nut and bolt inside out and knew what it took to make a fast car because it's what the routinely won in.

The current crop are drivers. Great drivers, but ultimately as Sir Frank Williams used to say "They are just jockeys in my machines".

You want to go to a Historic Race meeting cars are driven as hard as they were back in the day & only allowed to race as they were raced for their time period. Only modifications allowed are roll cage, full harness seat belts & fuel cell.
