    Medical experience NOT medical advice

I got a nasty infection in a surgery to fix my broken tibia as I broke some screws in my the first operation. The infection stopped the bone graft from working which delayed my return to running by several months.

For my third attempted to fix my broken leg I used two product not at that time available in Australia. It was "
    1. Bactisure™ Wound Lavage" and
    2. BLASTX Antimicrobial Wound Gel

Both are now available in Australia. Blastx from some chemists and Bactisure IF your surgeon will like mine did!

    Not investment advice!!!

My Aunt who is a nun in Papua New Guinea told me about another nun with tropical ulcers which depsite doctors best efforts was not healing and getting worse! When she went back to Papua New Guinea with a tube or two of BLASTX Antimicrobial Wound Gel.

She emailed me this and gave me permission to share it

    (11/1/2023)

"Hello James,This is Regina in Aitape and I already feel I know you because of your Aunty Ange.
A million, million thanks for sending that magic ointment.
I had 14 days of cephalexin injections for my sores, followed by 3 weeks Fluclox with Chlorophenical and yet there was one small sore which looked almost healed but decided not to respond when all that strong medication was completed (but am not sure abou the spelling), and instead decided to go deep. That's when I started the BlastX and I am delighted with the result. It all healed up in less than 3 weeks, and we also used it to great advantage on my two skin grafts, as I had read on the instructions that it was good for grafts also, which it certainly was. You were very generous with the amount you gave because we still have half the second tube plus the complete 3rd tube all ready for the next emergency in our house or wherever needed, and we'll be slow to part with it what's more.

So, many many thanks James. Angela too is so happy it was so successful.

It was good you and family were able to spend time with Mum and Dad during Christmas, you are giving them great support. So glad you too made such a great recovery; your wounds were very much worse than mine so you are an even better advertisement!

God bless and reward you, and may his blessings be on your family during this new year.

    With thanks

    Regina

If my family or friends are having any surgery like hip, knee or anything similar I would try to ensure they insist the Doctor, surgeon or hospital reduces the risk of infection like I had or worse as we have seen in the news today with a very cool singer who died after hip surgery!

Chat with your doctor or surgeon.

It is being used in dozens of hospital in the US now. The company is targeting larger markets and while it is approved for use here in Australia it is not being promoted while the US roll out occurs.

I do like risk reduction and love the reduction in time my surgical wounds healed when I used them myself!

I think it could be very useful. It is outstanding at helping protect from infection and help heal wounds. It is in my boat and my backpacking kit for cuts and scratches for just that purpose. It also does not hurt like some other wound disinfectants such as (de povidone‐iodine, chlorhexidine, alcohol, acetate, hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), boric acid, silver nitrate, silver sulfadiazine and sodium hypochlorite)

Many of them sting like a BEE plus! Povidone iodine is often used pre and post surgery. It was for me. I was yellow from it several times now and note it did not stop the very nasty infection which was probably from my own skin during my 2nd surgery

NB A little bit goes a very long way. One small tube lasted four weeks for me post surgery. I put in on under a wound dressing and only changed it once a week or so. My leg surgical wound was about 15 cm long. That bit one was opened up three times. Happily graft is solid and titanium is probably not needed. It can stay put until I get recycled

One can only dream that TGA won't impede the use here... Three out of my four surgeries in last 10 years resulted in an infection, two would have been perfect candidates for this.

Happily its fully TGA approved now. Only impediment is reluctance to change by many doctors/ surgeons who are very very conservative to any changes at all.

Your hit rate is exactly the reason asking what more than the OLD school systems which while mostly effective can be much better with this anti- biofilm gem. One infection was more than enough for me. The six more months not running it cost me is still hurting me now! Just did 20km in an hour more than what I was doing pre accident Lucky I can run and that I am alive. Frustrating to be as slow as I am still. It took me 5 years to get to my best speeds. Such is life
