I am sure most of us have been there,in fact now if the front seat passenger turns around to sort the kids out, give one a dummy back, drink bottle, or whatever, and has their seatbelt on but an arm under it for a few seconds,to reach the child, that is a $1K,if caught by a camera.
Second offence is loss of license.

It is just revenue collecting, nothing else.

Police on duty are granted exemptions from many of the road laws where I live, as it goes without saying that, unlike mere mortals, they are quite capable of speeding and talking on their phones without issue.

Spot on Paul, but one wonders how the millions are spent. Queensland Transport assures us all revenue from fines are spent on road safety.
Despite ramming down our throats, that fatigue is one of the fatal five, QT have withdrawn all support and funding from the Driver Reviver scheme, with many of the sites being closed. Being manned by volunteers, the scheme was not particularly costly.
The sites that remain open are funded by local councils and the Feds.

As they are here, but we are told they have special training.
I'd love to see the module on how to talk on the phone.

I always have a look around when I've stopped at traffic lights, and I also ride to work so I can see inside cars pretty easily - I'd guesstimate that 25% of drivers at the lights are either holding phones in their hands or texting on their laps when driving. And that's despite it being 3 demerit points. When I'm driving I never use to beep people who were slow to move off when the lights turned green, but I do now because they're inevitably looking down at their phones.

In Qld it is 4 points, and 8 points if caught again within the next 12 months. So license gone for getting done twice in 12 months.

In our work vans,we sit pretty high,so we can see into other vehicles easily.
A huge % are on the phone, either TXTing or talking,or whatever.

And a highway patrol officer i knew a few years ago told me they were taught to text on the run. Of course that would be denied.

There was a dad here in the Yk a few years ago where a driver had been spotted by police taking a bite out of an apple while driving. It was considered such a serious offence that when the person went to court protesting the fine the police flew a helicopter along the route and played the film they created in court as part of their case. Who knows how much that cost the tax payers

    Certainly it would.

My neighbour is a copper. He used to be in The Met, so when he came here he thought VicPol would be a good fit. After he had been in for a bit he went for what they call a "Silver " licence "( Gold is reserved for the Specials, like TOG). Part of this involved driving at 80KM/H in a 60 zone in an unmarked Passat with no emergency lights. They did this in the unsuspecting village of Mt Macedon amongst other places. The major component was defensive driving, which is really just identifying potential hazards.
Not blowing my own trumpet, and being aware that I am by no means perfect, given what I have done for the major part of my adult life I am a far more experienced driver than he will ever be ( especially as he now works in an office ) but 20K over the limit is a fairly serious offence for me here in Vic.
I know they have a job to do, but....
