Body swap possibilities?

So you're suggesting to mix German DNA with good old British pedigree.

Let me see if ever in royal history that's been done before..

The reason this idea germinated ..haha.
Was because having several 4wds already and this discovery having a 4.6 engine from a TVR . Previous owner poured a lot of $$$love into it.. I thought it could fly if I can knock off about a tonne of weight..

Let the fun and research begin.

If I'm not mistaken the Td5 is a BMW design , And South African Defenders certainly had BMW engines .

I started researching wheel bases and went on this great website Wheelbase Length Cross Reference: Vehicles with 2550 mm Wheelbase - Roadkill Customs
Type the wheel base and they give a list a matching cars.
And then can go + - whatever amount
Interesting is at 30mm less I can get a db4 Aston Martin body to fit ..
Just might need to tweak a wheel arch or something.
Only problem now is to find a db4 shell ..
If anyone has one lying around in a shed..
Are you willing to swap a p38 for one.?

Not correct, yes LR SA fitted a BMW petrol 6 to some defenders and a BMW diesel 6 was fitted to the P38 RR.
TD5 was fully built by LR .

Whats really interesting about this, is that Land Rover developed a Td4, Td5 & Td6 which shared parts (Freelander, Discovery, Range Rover) but the new owners at BMW already had a Td4 and Td6 already, so the Land Rover varients didn't survive, but BMW didn't have a Td5 so LandRovers Td5 did live on. I understood under the bonnet of the Disco would fit a Td5 and a V8 but wasn't long enough for a Td6. I think thats interesting because plenty of people these days have fitted the BMW M57 Td6 under the bonnet of the Disco.

Back on topic, last year I was picking up a wheel from Ritters and there was an early Leyland truck mounted onto a D1 chassis.
It was still 4wd and think it was a V8.

I wish I could. If I had access to old LROC mags, I could find him as he used to advertise in there (back when I was the editor), His wife was a bit of a honey…

There is a Holden HJ wagon on a D! chassis in Gulgong (or was about 6 - 7 years ago) looked like an Overlander. The owner said it was a simple swap to do. It looked good.
