The Big One! reverse in or reverse out! Is it Political :)

I don't care either way, which ever way you go in, you have to go out in the opposite manor - obviously a few exceptions.

I reverse park wherever possible. At home I reckon it's much safer as you can check what idiots are racing down the footpaths with no regard for their own safety let alone others. We used to have a neighbour who reversed out as quick as possible and nearly ran over little kids on more than one occasion.
She got shouted at and the car bashed by angry and frightened kid walkers a few times. Total moron.
At one time there used to be roads/car parks where you could angle reverse park and drive out which was much safer but that went many years ago. Probably because it took up too much room just like the parking spaces now have got narrower so they can fit more impulse buyers in....

Not uncommon to see a Driver try and kill me when on footpaths as a sad long distance running type [biggrin]. I am very aware and do stop and glare some times [bigrolf]

Being legally in the "right" does not equate to some sort of moral high ground, and I know from bitter experience that having someone to blame for a tragedy does not make anything better.

The thing about cars, trucks, buses, aeroplanes, bicycles etc. is that they are designed to go forwards. Sure, some are equipped with a reverse option, but it's only there for convenience. Visibility reversing is always restricted, usually highly so. The longer the vehicle, the worse this is.

A Discovery is approx 5 metres long. Being generous, that means that about 3 metres of it is already into the street before the driver can see anything at all of what's out there, and visibility is also compromised by the bulk of the vehicle itself. Going forward, that distance is about 1 metre, and the driver is looking the way the vehicle is designed for. Now, extrapolate that out to a 26 metre B-Double and you'll see why most truck drivers prefer to reverse IN.

My son always now reverses into a parking spot. That was drilled into him by the Swiss army. Drive in parking was not allowed.

With something modern,it should have RCTA,Rear Cross Traffic Alert.
It works brilliantly.
Particularly helpfull when backing something like a late model Hi Ace out of a park,when there is also a van parked beside it,and visibility is virtually nill until one has driven nearly all the way out of the park.

I know we should never rely 100% on something like RTA,but it does work very well.

I'm all for assistance aids if they work, however, when dealing with other people there is absolutely no substitute for eye contact.
