Going out blind, always, although these days so many people have earbud things in I'm not sure how much use it is. I always go out slow enough to stop if needed. When it comes to hitting pedestrians and the like, once isn't enough, it's too many.

This is what I meant by bitter experience. I nearly killed a cyclist once. The fact that I was driving along the road and he came out from between parked cars into my path in no way diminished the total anguish I felt. It's something to be avoided if possible, and in so many cases it IS possible.

FWiW. I also flick the hazards on until I am out & drive forward.. Our Mazda also has reversing sensors & camera but even then if people notice the lamps why the **** do they keep on walking?

Not uncommon to see a Driver try and kill me when on footpaths as a sad long distance running type . I am very aware and do stop and glare some times

When reversing in at least you can see who and what is about as you slowly pass where you intend to park. Any pedestrians etc are seen and you can wait for the road/pathway to be clear before starting your reverse turn.
Funniest thing I saw not long ago in Joondalup not far from the Police Academy and near the law courts, was a copper in a traffic vehicle trying to reverse park and other drivers were waiting politely for him to finish. What an absolute balls -up he made of it and after 3 attempts raced off to try somewhere else.
From my observations when working next door to the Academy was that they may be good at high speed stuff with the 'blues and two's on', but their basic driving was not much better than the average drivers.

Some people should not have a licence. A few years ago, there was a lady in a car something like an i30, she wanted to parallel park, there were 3 free bays following on from each other. She pulled up as would anyone, along side the car occupying the place in front, then for about 5 minutes she tried to reverse into one of the 3 bays, she just couldn’t! She then drove off upset. I just had to shake my head, and ask myself, how did she get a license in the first place?

I reverse in pretty much everywhere - apart from centre of the road parking in the City. It's been ingrained in me from years of parking at large building projects and mine sites - all of which mandate reverse parking. I also find it easier and I can get the Hilux straighter in the carpark going in backwards than I can forwards.

I also have a chuckle when someone cant reverse park their tiny car in a space somewhere and when they give up I stick the Hilux in there first go.
